It died. [Linked Image]

A friend and I backpacked in 2 miles and up 1800 feet and camped for the opener of Montana rifle season. We heard elk around camp all night. It was nuts.

My shot was the first shot of the morning. She died less than 500 yards from camp.

The shot was only 69 yards. Now to be clear, a lot of calibers will kill an elk at 69 yards. But I can say the 6.5 creed with a 120 grain Barnes ttsx makes the list. The bullet went through both shoulders and both lungs, and got caught on the hide on the way out.

We had to melt snow, as there was no other water.

My friend made a bad shot right after mine. His elk went up 1100 ft, over half a mile, and down 500 feet. She chose to die in this lovely rock field. That was a fun pack out.

Thankfully after we got his elk to where mine died, two older gents from Wisconsin offered to pack us out. I didn’t know you could fit the boneless meat from two elk on one mule, but you can. I weighed my bags a few days later, they were 199 pounds, including heart and both rib rolls.

Thanks for looking. Learn to love your .264 bullets!

Sounds like an awesome hunt, congrats!!

I've been a .264cal fan for years. The first rifle I bought when I was old enough (and rich enough) was a model 70 in .264 Win. mag.

Congrats, looks like you had nice weather too. We use Barnes TTSX too, but very rarely find the bullet in the animal.

Very nice! I got a nice cow with my Creed 2 years ago at 368 yards she went about 40 yards. I'm in Colorado as we speak looking for a bull to try it out on.

Saw a nice mule deer buck fall to a creedmoor yesterday morning. He made it about 20 yards.
