Guys where using pipe long before Zagger was. he just happened to use it and the trap bedding methods shown to make it more water resistant. But his catches also have been helped with pre baiting piles. I think Bob Jameson even used it back in the 80s

I've seen these types of replies and I certainly believe them. I've said a million times it'd be arrogant AND naïve to think otherwise.........and again, why I try to take the focus off of the gosh darned pipe.....
That said, I'm a pretty good student of trapping, trapping history, owned every book and VCR tape (before DVDs).......
....and for such "widespread" use (lol) of pipes for coyotes, I certainly haven't seen it in print or on tape.........doesn't mean it DOESN'T exist, just saying I haven't seen it.
But AGAIN.....my set is about SO MUCH more than the pipe and only the pipe. When I first wrote the article, I thought another good name was The Postman's Set: in rain, or ice, or snow, it STILL delivers! LOL
Show me a guy using pipes for coyotes in 1980 and I'd believe it. Show me someone making the "Pipe Dream Set" with my deep bed, hammer bed, steel screen and grass-only covering and I'll buy you a beer!
Anyone can get my original article in The Trappers Post and see even when I introduced it, I said perhaps others had used pipes........
I'm happy about the impact the set has made and certainly understand why people have perhaps NOT had success with it........

Not putting your set or methods down Mark,, You are a wise trapper, just saying the use of a "pipe" and even a soup can have been in use for decades, but you put your set together to defeat weather, especially rain and make a compination of sets into a real working powerhouse. I use them especialy in NY and PA in early season when it rains every other day lol.. Thousands of k9s caught on it.. kinda like an inverted dirthole/flat set.. and the fact that the bait and lure stays in the pipe and doesn't wash all around in the trap bed making it more proan to digging

Frankly, with the grass covering and lack of a need for dirt or sifting, let alone digging holes, one can get caught up in just putting them in due to the simplicity. I am NOT advocating that, but I am guilty for sure of becoming a ONE TRICK PONY LOL.......
MZ And yet when I see these mental midgets over on YOUTUBE and make their version of YOUR Pipe Dream set, I want to stand in the path of a on comin' train ! It is that bad ! I'm embarrassed

I'm embarrassed Yup, some of them can be tough to watch. In the end, it was inevitable that trappers, being trappers, would want to tweak or put their own twist on things. I am cool with that. What I struggle with is a guy wanting to try it for the first time and changing it without even trying it the "original" way first! Not a big deal and I certainly lose NO sleep over it......but still! Zagman
