Read a book about the New Madrid fault. Said the next time lets go going to be real bad. None of the city’s built on it are designed for quakes. Said it goes off about every 100 years in pairs of two. Was pass due when the book was written about 20 years ago. Made the River flow backwards for several miles. There weren’t very many people in the area last time, late 1800s. Millions of people live on it now.
And by the way all you folks that keep hoping California is going to slide off into the Pacific. Ain’t ever gonna happen. West of the San Andreas is on the Pacific tectonic plate and is being shoved up and over Nevada. SURVEY SAYS!

when the new Madrid goes off..........its gonna make those out west look like childs play from what I understand. it has something to do with the geological structure of the rock..........not only will it give off more force.................but over a much wider area as well. soo many crazy things happened when the new Madrid went off in succession in 1811-1812..yes, there was more than one....some reports say one of the quakes was up to a 9.5. sand geysers coming out of the ground, Mississippi flowing backwards.....imagine those folks trying to comprehend what was going on......................but heres the candle on the birthday cake..............Tecumseh predicted the earthquakes............he said that would be a sign unto the nations to do what needed to be done.

If it were moving east towards Nevada, we'd be seing uplifting/mountain building.

And Cali is actually being pushed north and east Under western Nevada. There are a couple (at least) pillons set on bedrock on either side with lasers set up to measure very precisely the movement of that fault and others. USGS has been very busy in that area. If I remember correctly the Cascades are part of the picture as well. Main point being California ain’t sliding off into the ocean.

Great now they're trying to over run the rest of the country. They've been trying that for decades!

There’s still a chance to get rid of California if the right earthquake happens in Hawaii and breaks off part of an island and creates a large enough tsunami it’ll clean the land off. One can hope. BTW how close to the Alaskan coast does James live? Asking for a friend, of course.

Those mountains are due to a plate that is now largely subducted.
