So Today I decided to take a shot with my Browning A-bolt 7mm Rem mag. It was on a Deer being chased by a young 3 pt buck. The buck dogged her in and out of a far woods/ field edge.
I took a shot and missed, the larger deer, the hot doe came out and stood broadside at 350 + yds I assumed. Using my 4.5 to 14 Burris I used the second plex line under the center crosshairs. Second shot I dropped the doe.
Stepped off on the way to the deer was 395 yds. [Linked Image]

It was a Very fun hunt with my Dad.

It was my Dad's tag we filled, he was Happy
Dad is 82 and has Polio... [Linked Image]

Nice. I'm thinking about buying you a rangefinder for Christmas, Scott, that's a lot of paces to keep track of.

Glad you got "the meat" for your Dad. I doubt a Creedmoor would have killed an animal that large at 400 yards. Those are magnum caliber distances.

Nice that you and your dad are still out hunting. I hope I'm hunting with my kids at 82! The 7mm RM is my meat gun too.

My sister in law shot a cow elk last year at just under 400 with a creedmoor last year. Killed it just fine. More about shot placement than caliber.
That is still a heck of a nice shot your made. Congrats to your and your father. Pretty cool to see him getting out and hunting!

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

MT^^^ The Creedmoor title was in reference to my post last week wanting to buy a new rifle.

I still want one. Just not right now. Now I need more Ammo for what I do own.

I'll take whatever I can get my grimy little fingers on. Luckily, they all group about the same.

That 139Gr.PSP. Maine ammo would be some Fast floating Ammo from the 7mmMAG. grin

Remington uses to put out a 140 gr. Bonded Soft point in a Green and Gold box. For the 7mm Mag. Loved shooting that stuff

I spent 2 weeks hunting with someone this fall. I loved his stories about his grandparents who spent 8 months in the bush each year. He said everytime they'd go hunting when they got back to camp his grandmother would ask "where's the meat".

It seems obvious that the doe was shot for the meat and to be given to his Dad. This post reminded me of that and why we hunt. End of story.

No offense intended to 330 and his Dad.

PF, I'll sleep well tonight and I hope you do.

Looks like you made your Dad pretty happy. Good deal! Did you ever find that .22 birdshot you were looking for?
