He has a lot of "you knows" in his message. To me, by telling trappers to stay away from trapping raccoons contradicts what trapping is all about. I always preached we need to control the populations to maintain a healthy population, if we don't control those populations it is likely an outbreak of some sort of disease will occur.

It cost money to operate.........

Everything costs money. Going to the movies, a football game, bowling, hunting, fishing and especially a wife. Those that love to to do it will do you regardless of fur prices. My furs will be tanned this year then donated to my district to sell at fund raisers during the off season. And my wife is worth every penny.

So your long lining this year?

I bet most everyone that talks about tanning and marketing their own fur is less than 50 pelts and probably the majority are less than 20 pelts. And those #s are not effecting the population much if any. Both hobby trappers and people trapping for $ have their rightful place.

I can think of some pretty well known long liners that pretty much stepped out of trapping completely in the 80s crash and pretty much stayed out. One was fairly young when he stopped trapping and is now in one of the hall of fames.

Anyone selling to GFW is part of the problem. They have been underpaying for years and yet they still have guys waiting in line. Find a new market or quit complaining about prices. As long as trappers sell to them the market will stay flat. JMO

My thoughts exactly. As a college student with a new family in the 70s I paid rent with 3 red fox pelts. What are they worth now? Business is business.
