Well, I haven't updated my feeble attempt at trapping this year... So here goes !

With age, body wear, and old age ailments, for the last 21 days I have managed to set and run a small number of traps. I guess the largest number set at any one time has been 10. Have set in one location for first week & half then pulled them. First place was mainly for muskrats, but managed to harvest 2 coon and 13 rats.

Reset next day at another golf course location; Made a mink set and 3 coon sets. So far have caught and kept 2 coon and 1 really small coon, and 1 really small possum, both released. Still running them.

I also have set at another golf course, where I have 3 rat sets and one mink set. So far have caught 5 rats and 1 mink at this location. Still running them for a few more days.

I also have coon traps set at a friend's house, in the country, had 2 live traps set and added a 2 DPs yesterday, but have caught 2 coon so far. An interesting story from my friend... He checks the traps and send me a text if there is anything in them... so a couple of days ago I get a text... "got one ringtail in trap"... So, I stopped... at a distance I can see a ringtail... so get my weapon and walk to the cage... the darndest thing I ever saw. A large black and gray cat covered with lighter round spots on the back, a ring tail, just like a coons... had a collar with a name plate on it, but couldn't read it, because the cat wouldn't hold still long enough and all it wanted to do was get it's claws into me. SO I shook and jostled the cage good, (so it would remember the next time it saw one) rolled it over, door flopped open and the cat shot out of there like it was on a bungy...

Well, total so far: 18 muskrats, 7 coon, and 1 mink.

Nothing much else happening unless you count the number of times I have fallen down, stumbled when walking, or have to crawl up on to the bank and figure what to grab hold of to pull myself to my feet. I want to warn all of you now... "Getting old ain't for no sissies".

And 1 cat! Keep up the good work old timer. I just started and I hope to keep doing it at your age.

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

Sure hope some of your negotiations with those golf courses include some summer rounds of golf
so you can do active check-ups

Sounds like you are having fun, that is the important part.

Well done Garry-you will have some nice furs to tan later when trapping season winds down,if you dont sell them on the raw fur market.

After breaking my leg this Aug. I didnt think I would walk again ,let alone trap again .But what happened I wallered around got a cage trap set and caught 2 rats. So the streak goes on 62 years plus and never missed a season. Of all the thousands of rats Ive caught, those 2 were the best.Keep on trapping boys and girls and enjoy yourself!!

Way to go. Limping to work and back is about all I can do and I am quite a bit younger.

A side note... after my 3 coon catch... even though I have carts at the golf courses I still have to walk and carry the coon on an average of 20 to 25 yards... load them in the cart, unload and load into vehicle, (once home) get them up 3 steps, get them down 12 steps into the basement, hang them and skin them, pulling and tugging (no machine), carry carcasses up the 12 steps and get them back to the vehicle and loaded, unload them at dumping site.................................................... I had to wait until the next day to skin the poor little mink. Now I have suffered "severely" with back pain since then.

It kind of makes me wonder if I really want to catch any more coon... but still look forward to seeing them in the trap.

Holy crap... Is this really worth it?????????????????

I wish there were more rats around... much easier to handle all the way around.
