Anyone want to do an ice fishing trip to Lake Winnibigoshish in North-central MN? We have room for one more. Staying at The Pines Resort. Dec. 10-14. Cabin is $50/night.
This is a pic from last year's trip

Nice crappies smile

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

The one on the bottom is a bass. You can tell it's different than the crappies.

I was just out tonight. 3 inches of BAD ice and I couldn't find my favorite hump either. I was close and will find it in the next couple of days.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I talked to the guy who runs the resort today. He said they have 6-8" of ice and are taking wheelers out. A couple warm days coming, but a nice cool down for 6-7 days before we arrive. Should be good to go by the 10th! And, who the heck wants to eat a bunch of moss-bellied bass!? sick

That is interesting. I heard they just started letting people walk out on Red and that freezes up WAY sooner than Winnie. The bigger lakes here are still open.

Red normally is first ice, just like most lakes.

I’ve got all of 5 inches ice out front here. Having no snow cover to speak of helps.

Radio says maybe some rain later this morning, going to improve some of the worlds largest skating rinks.

I've been on Winni many times. Most memorable experience was fishing in -20 one morning with no shack. It was too cold to mess with minnows so I used a perch colored jigging rap and caught around a hundred in a few hours, all released as we were heading home afterwards. No bruisers but it was a top 10 experience in the fishing memory archives. Enjoy your trip!

Fished Winnie in the winter back when limits were high enough to make a winter trip worth while. Stayed at the old Sunset Bay resort which is no longer in operation. Had a blast on sleds running around the lake fishing reefs until we got on a hot school of fish and then load up. When limits were reduced added Upper Red to our itinerary for some huge crappies. Eventually stopped going in winter with the reduced bag limits. Now go up in the Summer to Williams Narrows to enjoy the sunsets and catch some of perch, walleye and northern.

Forever in debt to my Father who introduced me to trapping.
May I be half the man he was.
