You haul in 50% junk coyotes to sell in a dropping market on the round and wonder why the price was low. The gravy train is gone.

Must be getting east river trash. Eastern South Dakota should just be given to Minnesota. Same people, same fur. Anything taken west river and north of rapid city should be getting more heavy grades than semi if they were taken at the correct time.

Well, if your Governor is East of the river we'll take that deal, no questions asked.

It's pretty dry, all the easy rat places are dried up. Have a few places for this spring, but its going to require a lot more walking. Another summer like last and they will be gone too.

Fur trapping for profit is over. Hopefully I'm wrong but I don't think so. Fur market will never come back.

$55 for roughly 100 coon in the grease is about 55 cents apiece. That is low enough to keep most off the coon line! $2.88 average on 97 rats, a lot like last fall, was hearing and hoping a tad bit of advancement in the rat market.
30-35% reduction in size breaks from say 2xl to xl to large is a lot in my opinion but then the market is what it is. At least the price break from good to average coon is not too big! (he states with much sarcasm).

If you are over 50 years old.....you're probably correct.....we won't see another season with good prices.....but one day it will cycle up again.

What counts on the 'rats is the average. 87 at $280 = $3.22.

Average pay out per species is what GFW or any successful buyer works on.

Nice to see some real figures - tks.

I am going to start chasing in a week I think. Ben looking at sign now. Fur should start looking better soon.

I boo-booed on the math and counted 10 too many rats, so yes $3.22 is the correct average which is about 40-50 cents higher than early goods a year ago. Rats have gone up about as much as an average in the green coon is worth. I had plans to run a longer coon line with my canine line this year and opted out and boy am I glad I did. Even our yotes are not worth the cost of put up let alone the coons.

Ya! 50 is pretty old. I've been in this game almost fifty years. When people think its over the pipeline can clear out pretty quick. Like farming if the crop isn't in storage you'll miss that sleeper market. Don't put all you're eggs in one basket. Tunnen vision is your worst enemy, besides maybe a glass half full.

I would have thought by now, everyone kinda knew early coon had no value. That fellow needs to step up his learning curve. Early coyotes will be the same this year. We're getting back to a time when people trapped in the winter, not spring and fall.

those early coon worked several years with 15 to 20 dollar averages and a 100 percent clearance in iowa and wisconsin could add 5 to 10 dollars on that but maybe thats why a lot arent trapping for the fun of it because it isnt fun like it used to be for most trappers

Yep, and Fisher used to bring $400 and Otter averaged well over $100....................Have at selling early, less than fully prime fur of any species this year! Fall rats will still sell, just for less.
