Thats the only way a gun can go off without the person holding it pulling the trigger.
Hangfire can occur several seconds after the trigger has been pulled-plenty of time to hand someone a gun and for them to wave it around before it goes off.

That's true, however I and millions can argue Alec WILLFULLY NEGLECTED basic gun safety handling by not checking the weapon, pointing it in an unsafe direction. Had he even followed basic safety measures this wouldn't have happened.
As a producer he allowed crew to shoot live ammo during downtime. Once again he willfully neglected basic Hollywood safety measures with guns. Most productions have crew and extras working over 12 hours on set with an average of 14+ hour days.

Besides, hang fires usually last a few seconds to a minute. From hangfire to Alec putting gun in holster in cross draw then drawing pointing towards the camera lady must have happened extremely fast.

Thankfully my cousin wasn't on set that day and didn't want to work with him on this film. She has refused to film at that set location since this incident.

Has anybody here ever experience a hang fire? I've probably fired somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 rounds in my lifetime. It's hard to estimate so it might be more. I've hunted or shot targets or clays with lots and lots of people and watch them fire more rounds than I've fired myself. I'm even a certified firearms instructor and shot with 100+ new shooters. And, when I'm shooting at the range, there's often others shooting to my left or right.

I have never experience or witnessed a hang fire.
