The Boy has a question on his home work that I can't seem to wrap my head around. So I will pose it to the best minds on the world wide web.

Write a word problem for 4 divided by 1/3.

Yup that's it. Sounds easy but we can't seem to word a question that makes sense and that equals 12.

4 ÷ 1/3 = 12

The Boy corrected me on that and now I'm lost too

1/3 = .33333333

(4) divided by (.33333333) = 12

No one should worry- sooner or later all the "A" students end up working for the "C" students anyway grin

you and your 3 buddies are sitting around the table playing a crib , Donny brought a 12er so everyone got 3 cans , before Donny could even crack one open his old lady was screaming at him from da cell , he had to run so we divided up his cans and then we each had 4 a third of a 12er each

When dividing fractions into another number, invert the fraction and multiply as Danny has done.

"divided by 1/3" is the same as "multiplied by 3".

Flip the fraction and "divided" becomes "multiplied" and "multiplied" becomes "divided".

It's stuff like this that caused me to behave so badly in 7th Grade I got kicked out of St. Mary's Elementary. Mr. McCurdy and Sister Hildegarde came to my parents and said..."We think Raymond would do better in Public School next year."

None of it was my fault, of course.
