Been looking forward to giving yall an update on my screw in trap stakes just not under these circumstances.finally got around to getting some sets out with the new staking system.the lag bolts work great.screw in good and screw out good.no hamering or straining to get them pulled out.and they hold well in the ground I used them in.only had one set that hit a rock and I had to move the stakes slightly out of the trap bed to get clear of the rocks.it was also at the edge of a road bed so I figured I might have a little trouble.could have hooked a drag up but wanted to se if I could make it work if I had to and it did.but just so happens I lost what would have been the first coyote of the season in that exact set!pull up to the set and se a faint catch circle.get out to investigate and the rivet broke at the butterfly swivel! These are bran new butterfly swivels first time I used em.just got them in from f&t.had to pull all the rest of my traps because I could not trust the swivels.only good part about the whole thing was I was able to just screw the stakes out without any trouble and was very fast.if anyone has bought these style of swivels lately,don't use them!! I don't know yet if I will try and mod them to make them work somehow or just order different ones.i thought about welding the underside of the rivet but don't think it will do much good because of where the rivet broke.

How are you screwing these in?

These are the swivels I bought

They where more expensive than the ones that use a j hook.figured these where stronger.wrong!

Screw them in with a cordless drill.same one I use for my dirthole auger

Looks like an easy enough fix... just put a J-hook through the center hole like you would a normal double stake swivel.

I also run shock springs.now I'm out my trap and chain set up,my time and a 50$ live market coyote.

Hole is to small.i will haveto drill all of them out

Years ago when I ran re bar,I used the j hook style butterflies.i gave them away several years back to a young trapper who was just starting out.so I went to order some new ones and saw that style.they where a little more$ and looked heavy duty.thought they would work good with my longer chains(around 20 inches) because the swivel looked like it would take more side pressure than a j hook over time

How big of lag bolts you using?

1/2 inch 16 inches long.they have a 3/4 head on em being they are 1/2 inch. I welded washers on them also.prolly don't need it but makes me feel better lol

I have never trusted any of those butterfly double stake outfits. Putting a thirty or forty pounding coyote where he is pulling sideways against a swivel rivet does not sit well with me. First time I seen them, I laughed, but most get away with it. But I’m still not gonna use any of them!
