I have used the double stake swivels for several years. Mine do not have the riveted swivel in the center, it does look like a weak spot. I would remove the rivets, put in a j hook with a crunch proof swivel, and go ahead using them. Good luck
or this..

Ive used a different version of those double stake swivels too...for decades. Mine don't have that riveted swivel in middle just a jhook through hole in middle. I wouldn't buy those with that extra piece in middle. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

There’s at least one person at F@T that has very little trapping knowledge. This picture is from there online catalog. Just curious what you think is wrong with that picture?

Here is the way I rig up my butterfly swivels...The real problem with the butterfly's is the stake body will develop stress fractures over time and eventually break. By welding 2 together you create a super durable unit, where even the big eastern dawgs are held. I favor the center rivet design, and have never had one open up or fail even with 50+ pound dawgs...If that ever starts happening, which I seriously doubt...I'll tack the rivets, but so far no need to do so. J.C. Conner Chestnut Rings are good too...Just like the center swivel concept of a butterfly a little better.

You base this on one swivel breaking and you really dont know what happened ,maybe a theft hook a chain on it and pull something has to give ,
