There’s at least one person at F@T that has very little trapping knowledge.
This picture is from there online catalog.

Its a man made part. They fail occasionally. Get over it and move on.

Get rid of that butterfly nonsense. Plenty of heavier duty options. Jc conner stake rings is one option. 3 links of chain or a couple lap links welded shut. Middle link attaching to the jhook from your terminal swivel and a stake going through each remaining chain link or lap link. This also allows you to single stake or cross stake as you see fit.

Yes I agree.i am going to something else.just don't know what I'm going to do with these things now.i have 3 dozen of them.i wouldn't mind giving them away to someone who needs em but that wouldn't be good either.looks like the trash can for them lol. I have not contacted f&t.im not sore at them.im sure other trapping supply houses carry the same swivels.

I have used the double stake swivels for several years. Mine do not have the riveted swivel in the center, it does look like a weak spot. I would remove the rivets, put in a j hook with a crunch proof swivel, and go ahead using them. Good luck

Why not add a small bolt and nut? seems easy enough fix even if you have to oversize but say a #6 mm bolt or something and a washer? A lot stronger than a aluminum rivet.

I'm starting to like the 3 links of chain idea.thsts something I can run and get at the hardware store today and get those traps back out.other wise I would haveto wait on an order from a trapping supply house.guess I'm just a little gun shy now but I still don't like the idea of a j hook getting side pressure like that.what size chain do yall think would work best? Something that my 1/2" lag bolts will go through.may haveto spread the 2 links that the lag bolts will go through or something like that

Ive used a different version of those double stake swivels too...for decades. Mine don't have that riveted swivel in middle just a jhook through hole in middle. I wouldn't buy those with that extra piece in middle.

Hate to sayit, but those are structurally a much better design than the ones with a swivel rivet. Problem is that the rivet in that type is not heavy enough. Drill the dang things out and put a 5/16 inch bolt through it, tighten the nut and spot weld the nut. You will have a better product than what you have now!

I use the JC Conner double stake rings. I used those double stake swivels when I first started and I hated them.

Here is the way I rig up my butterfly swivels...The real problem with the butterfly's is the stake body will develop stress fractures over time and eventually break.

By welding 2 together you create a super durable unit, where even the big eastern dawgs are held.

I favor the center rivet design, and have never had one open up or fail even with 50+ pound dawgs...If that ever starts happening, which I seriously doubt...I'll tack the rivets, but so far no need to do so.

J.C. Conner Chestnut Rings are good too...Just like the center swivel concept of a butterfly a little better.

You base this on one swivel breaking and you really dont know what happened ,maybe a theft hook a chain on it and pull something has to give ,

Snopa i do know what happened and it was No theft.private property.one way in and one way out through a locked gate.if someone walked in there they would haveto walk across a waist deep creek and then another half mile or so.faint catch circle with coyote tracks in it.thats the first catch I made with these new swivels.1 out of 50 might not be so bad but 1 for 1...no good.i pulled the rest because I can't trust them.seen all I need to se.what would you have done?
