Got my first fisher last year, 12/20/20 (date shown on receipt) and dropped it off that day at taxidermists. Called back in mid Aug. and again mid Nov. and both times got the "it's still at the tanners" response "because of covid". Nov. she said as soon as she got it back she'd get it done and I could pick it up then along with my deer head. Told her never brought in a deer head and got a "whoops" for an answer. Payment had to be done upfront (Dad had used them back in the 80's for 5-6 mounts) so thought everything would be fine. Starting to wonder if they just lost it. Or is this a normal wait time? Don't know if last late season and just finished deer season she'd make more of a priority.

Fisher could be different, but I know several waterfowl taxidermists around me have been unable to get the foam bodies they need for the mount. I guess they are floating around on one of those cargo ships out there

Gotta live up to the nickname...

Call your taxidermist. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Sounds a lot like Whispering Winds taxidermy. She said the same stuff for my dad's bear rug. She ended up taking 2.5 years to return.

My last moyles shipment was 6 months ago and haven't got it back yet
Usually a 3 or 4 month turnaround.
Going to call them after the new year. Figure everything is slower since the Wuhan hit

Don't know about a fisher but my silver fox was about 4 months.
I don't know how to post pics but if you click on my link and go to small animal section you'll be able to see him.

I would be warry of any professional taxidermist without at least a one year back log. The wait right now for tanneries and supplies is longer than ever. You should have been given a BALLPARK timeframe when you dropped it off, maybe even on the receipt. If that time frame has passed by a lot then don't use them again. If it hasn't, just be patient.
As far as the "squeaky wheel gets the grease", that will get you put straight in the "do not work for" list with most taxidermists. When I did taxidermy I had a handful of people that pulled that crap of constantly calling to "check when it will be done", months before I said it would be done. I would just repeat the timeframe I told them from the start, and that's when it got done. And whenever they called to have another mount done I told them I wasn't taking any more for they year. I'm not going to spend half my time listening to the same old stories, I have crap to do. When I give a timeframe of when to call, that doesn't mean call 6 times before then.

^^^^^^^^ This is 100% spot on I just retired out of taxidermy and was fed up with the calls. Some people, not all seem to forget that you told them a certain timeframe and, 3 months later they are on the phone wondering how's my mount coming along? The people look around in your shop and see the freezers. most of the time they are full and most cases I told them they are full of work. The squeaky wheel in my experience is the person you call that the mount is completed and they tell you they have to save up for it !

Oh man, does this thread ever give me a knot in my gut. I worked 6 and 7 days a week for year after year, and with very few exceptions, I met my deadlines with room to spare. Those "when will it be done" calls do nothing to speed the process. Believe me, I know there are guys out there that drizzled out their work and dragged their feet in a big way.......those are the the ones that gave the rest of us a bad name. It ain't a taxidermy thing, it's a human thing. Some guys are crooks, some guys are lazy, some are just simply not as fast at getting work out the door. I guess my advice to Mr. Woodchuck is to stop over to see the guy/gal and see what's what. I was retired well before Covid, but have numerous friends still plugging away at it, and to a man/woman, they are having a terrible time getting tanned capes/hides back from the tannery, as well as getting material orders delivered. Covid has goofed up every darn thing in the way of supply and demand. Boy am I glad I am retired.

Good luck, woodchuck.

Thanks for the info. Didn't think was being a "pain" when just called to ask if she had any idea. Buddy got his fisher a week after mine and took it to the taxidermist who does all his deer heads. Guess he also does his own tanning. Buddy had his back in July.

I was over 2 years on a promised 12-16 month return on
My fisher but he made it up to me by getting my elk back to me in 6 months. I dropped a bobcat off to another taxidermist 2 years ago as of Nov 6th he will be getting a call soon.

I dropped off a 32" 12.5 lb walleye and a$ 200 deposit in 2006 and have not heard anything from him. I'm guessing he ate it.

My fisher mount took six weeks but then he had his own tanner machine. He could do about anything but bears in it. He turned stuff around fast because he was on social security and needed the money. He was cheap and did a good job, and really fast.

I took him an early season buck on September 3 one time, and he called me on September 17 to tell me it was done. Unfortunately he died in February.

The tanneries are really backed up these days. I have a bear that's been at the tannery for over 15 months.

My area taxidermist take 2 years to do a deer shoulder mount. But they do good work so it’s worth the wait.
