Two years ago I crawled up to this female bedded down below the crest of a snow bank above a small creek. It was firm snow, she heard me at 180 yards, I was trying to get to a spot where I could see her while laying down for the shot. I saw her ears come up and head faced me, I froze, waited for more than five minutes hoping she would curl back up. Then I started crawling as quietly as I could, I made it about ten more feet, ears up!, Head up! She's on her feet, ran three steps stopped to look at me to see what it was she heard, I flopped on my belly and she ran three steps and stopped again. I shot then with a good rest laying on the snow, she dropped in her tracks and slid 30 feet down the snow bank and stopped there. That was so close, 1-2 more seconds and she would have been gone! You can see her tracks walking in from the right, she made a bed, then the running tracks as she started to leave, then the slide marks down the hill Pretty fur, but short not long, 50$

I lived for hunting fox, shot 78 one year and trapped 30 some more. Then mange killed pretty much all of the fox, thirty years ago. Coyote moved in and took over, I got 4-8 coyote when I was averaging 120 fox a year. I quickly realized fox tactics aren't always the best for coyote. I have stalked and killed 4 coyote in a day, 6 fox was my best.
A few years back I started keeping track of how many stalks were successful. At one time I was 13 out of 14, now it's 21 out of 28 A friend called me to hunt some that were educated to hunters, I only got 3 of 6, one I had to crawl on my hands n knees and belly at least 5/8 of a mile, he was laying up on a small terrace, could see 1/2-1 mile all around him except behind him, the wind told him what was behind him.

What's the weather looking like in IA. Sounds like it could be pretty tough. Just a lot of wind and light rain in SE SD. Most of our snow will be gone by the end of this week. We got some heavy down pour, now probably 50 mph winds, spitting snow
