Long story short, I live in a former Amish home. It was built with no moldings or trim. I finally found a good deal on Red Oak last spring and bought enough to do all the windows, doors and baseboards. Doors and windows I want to do with fluted moldings and rosettes. I bought a fluting jig for my router awhile back from Amazon but needed to figure out a good way to hold the material. I racked my brain for a bit in the shop and came up with this. It's nothing fancy, but it works really well.

It's 8' long and has two adjustable clamps for holding the material. on the left is the track that the router jig runs in to keep everything straight.

The clamps are just made with a strip of .625" White Oak, some all thread, threaded inserts and I made the knurled knobs on the lathe.

Here you can see the router and jig as it's riding in the slot.

Nothing to do now but load a piece of wood and do some fluting. This is just a piece of 2X4 I had lying around, It's 4 foot long so it will be a good test to make sure everything is kept straight. The longest I will be doing for this project is under 7 feet.

It turned out pretty good! I'll actually be doing 4 flutes with a .375 bit on the Red Oak, but this was just a test run. Nice thing is that I can use this on just about any size, so it will come in handy for future projects.

Looks very good. Are those inserts just pressed in? Looks like tightening the all thread may back them out if they are. I am sure you thought of that, maybe just the way I am looking at the pictures.

Did you have to put in a bathroom and electrical and all that. Just curious what the home actually had to start with.

Great work. Necessity is the mother of invention.

I'm just getting my woodshop together in our new place. Lots of ways to skin a cat.

No, they have 3 small screws on the flange holding them in.

Yes and no. the house was built in 2000. It was wired and plumbed but both done all "Hog Shop". The electrical was all blank plated and not done well at all. 20 amp breakers with 14 gauge wire and too many things on one breaker. Don't even get me started on the plumbing. It's take years to sort things out and every time I try to do something, it turns out to be a nightmare. Nothing is built to any standard sizes. If I knew then what I know now about this house, I never would have bought it. I have too much time and money into the place now, and I've made it a pretty nice home, so I told the wife to bury me up on the hill with the cats, I'm not moving. Anything you hear about Amish quality is a flat out lie. I'm here to tell you.

Excellent as usual Finster, good job!

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Man I wish fur was high and wood was cheap about now! Your apparatus looks good the wood working instructor in HS made up jigs like that and called them fences.

Looks nice, as you’ve probably found with the rosettes you can just buy a bit for your drill press, but last time we found it was cheaper to buy them already made.

Yup, I bought a bit. Much cheaper to go that way. I'll need over 70 of them, and if you try to buy Red Oak rosettes, they ain't cheap. I think the bit ran me around $70 ish
