your not fouling the barrel with the primers you are blowing the flash channel dry to get any oil out of it that would cause ignition issues
do your pyrodex pellets say for inline use?

Not sure, triple 7 or pyrodex, I shot them before, I didn't know a difference if for online, I thought most inline, I had old cheapy years back with nipple on side an didn't like it, I rember pull trigger an fire a second or 3 later a few times

load them one way and test , a 209 should be hot enough to not need a kicker charge either way
the new packaging has no instructions on a loading direction
how old are your pellets ?
you need to sight in any way.

yes the beveled end should have a shiny ring around the bevel and on the bottom, the shiny substance is the igniter. that end goes down!

Ya the end that is pretty flat is up , so the difference is in pellet with ignition better , I didn't know that until less year ago , no place to sight it in, most deer shots are on close side or wouldn't try, had muzzloader years back an got deer but bought one last summer , nothing late muzzle last season, public hunt area over run hunters an then most stuff closed down snow storm , couldn't get good spot because limted byself with hills an competiors , the particular area didn't have lot deer around where everyone went

You have never sighted it in?

I understand working of muzzloader , simlar to cannon, highly corrisive powder, got keep clean out or no go next day, I can load it like today but no primer on it till go hunting is legal, it should shoot pretty close when in short range Im answering your question about which end of pellet is the right way to load. I don't unload my muzzleloader ( I remove primer) until I shoot or done for the season. I also don't take it in warm/ cold at all. Causes moisture and misfires. Stays in my truck.

sight in or stay home
I sighted in on year with my muzzle loader , then went hunting well something got bumped.
2 deer come walking at me I wait till about 30 yards then shoot smoke clears 2 deer running off , so I reload , as I am reloading the one doe comes back I am pulling the ram rod out as it gets to about 35 yards I take aim and shoot again smoke clears doe running off
so I reload , just as I am pulling the ramrod in that doe walks again this time as I raise the gun she take odd running , not hardly believing I had missed that bad twice I found a dead tree and shot it from about 20 yards 6 inches right at 20 yards well that explains why I missed the almost head on shot twice at 30 and 35 yards.
there was 6 inches of snow , and not one drop of blood
right about now someone will say but I had it professionally bore sighted
absolutely the worst scope mounting and bore sighting job I ever had and the only one I ever paid for was a Gander Mountain new scope on that muzzle loader , I was 12 inches low at 25 yards I had to get a bigger target to even see where I was hitting to start moving.
go sight in stuff moves guns don't come sighted in new you need to know where your load hits
if there is no range in Iowa drive to Wisconsin my son took a friend to the Yellowstone range they saw guys there who had driven 2 1/2 hours up from ILL to shoot at the Yellow stone range , it is closed Tuesday. it is 50 minutes once you cross the river

Stays in my truck. it don't have a scope , maybe should find something dead I'm woods like old big stump to shoot once, I would think open sights should be close ? Ya that exactly what I thought but never did nothing about it, ice cold an warm an moisture, then I thought the pellets protect by sabot an it not broke open an maybe very little moisture , maybe not problem with 209 ignition ? What a good load ? I have always used sabots an got new 250 grain Hornady , never used them , I thought sabot was best ? The deer I got in past where with sabots but in heavier grains , all were under 100 yards an most way closer that, I did get one with long shot, maybe 150 yrds, not sure

Going hunting without sighting in the gun? That is careless, reckless, foolish, and certainly demonstrates no concern about a quick kill. I thought only my idiot brother-in-law does that.
