I agree, dump the pistol before the Remington.
Tikkas are fine shooters. My buddy has a 6.5 cm and it shoots less than an inch at 100 yards. 5 shot groups at a touch over an inch. Great for hunting at all reasonable ranges.
I have a 6.5cm Ruger Hawkeye Predator. Not a bull barrel, but also not a light sporter barrel. I believe it’s a magnum contour barrel and its 24”. It’s a long range tack driver, but at over 8lbs, it’s not lightweight. I wanted the laminated wood stock. It shoots better than my buddy’s Tikka, but is noticeably heavier. The adjustable trigger is wonderful.
Good luck with your new rifle.

If your taking a vote I gotta go with keep the old plane Jane 788 I still hold out hope for them to have a collectability factor one day, and I don't know about today but for all of my life they have the fastest lock time of any production rifle.

Looking at the Tikka T3X Light or Bergara B14 Hunter in 270 winchester. What is you gun nuts opinion. Trying to stay in that $800 or under $ range.
Thinking of trading in a Ruger security 6 357 mag stainless or Remington 788 222 (less than a hundred rounds through it) an idea value of either gun? Your ruger, and rem have more resale value today, than your flavor of day rifles will ever have.

Like white 17 said, howa 1500 or weatherby vanguard. Same rifle. Guaranteed to shoot minute of angle. Ones I have seen shoot better than that with handloads. Originally they came with an adjustable trigger. The new ones do not. They come in at about 4 pounds. There are youtube videos on how to lighten it up if you want without buying an after market trigger. Feeding and extraction is smooth and reliable. Well built firearm's. I like them so much I had a gunsmith build a stock for my wife (shes barely 5 feet tall), and put a howa 300 win mag barreled action on it. I dont know if they still sell just the barreled action though. 270 winchester FWIW is a great cartridge also.

To me there is no in between options, ruger american, savage axis on low end for hunting or christenson on the upper end for hunting, the low end guns are very accurate but absolutely in love with my christenson.

What Marty B said. I’d definitely keep the security six and I’d think hard before selling the 788

Thanks for all the advise everyone. I guess I'll just spent cash for the new rig and keep the others. Probably as good as an investment keeping them as anything else I'd do with the $ if nothing else. I like both of them just don't shoot them much and the practical side of me said sell them or trade them in. The ruger has evidently tripled in value and rifle doubled since I bought them so I'll just hang on to them. I've never been much of a gun nut or collector, they have always have just been a cool tool for hunting for me. But on the other hand I've never sold or traded one in either. If nothing else the boys will have two more guns to fight over in 30 years I guess.
Good choice. I'd love to have that .222 as well.

I am not anywhere near mature enough too choose between the 788, the good revolver, and a new .270. Maybe I will never grow up, but I'd want all 3

270 is a great cartridge. After looking at all the information and researching as much as I could I was impressed with the 270. I hope to be continually impressed with it. Originally was thinking 7mm08 but the 270 was flatter with more down range punch for a little more recoil. Bought it to be a longer range deer gun for my boy whose in a wheelchair. Planning on taking him on a mule deer hunt in a year or two and we need all the range we can muster.
