Back in October I me and the dog were at camp grouse and pheasant hunting for a week in Potter County. I pulled dozens off him every day. He gets a chewable tablet that keeps them from biting him but they still crawl on him.
I use Permethrin but one still got me, dug into my leg.
The dog has had a few on him every time out hunting down here at home since then. I pulled two off him in the last week during this winter warm up.
Eh...wot?

pulled one off , had another one removed from my back both early November , never even thought to check my back but my wife noticed it when I went to get in the shower.
I hadn't seen any all summer and got lazy with the permethrin then it rained half the month of October and then they were out
same week I took 2 off the dog

I went all summer working in an over grown apple orchard and did not have any but in the early spring they were out. In fact in the tress I sprayed the dormant spray and got ready for the insect killing stuff but never had any bug damage all summer, here in this part of Pa we had a good rain every week. That must have done the bugs in, I hate the toxic sprays so I was happy.......jk

Winter doesnt seem to stop Pa ticks, makes them more active I think. If you had winter it would stop them. It was 7 below this morning and show -21 for a low tonight. That slows ticks down.

Sawyer brand permethrin spray. Winter does not stop them. They live through my deep freezer, at least some of em.
Two in the last week.

Sure should.....but as soon as you bring a mink or any other tick carrying animal in to skin it that tick is going to be like a heat/blood seeking missile to you.

Coyotes are an oasis for tick in the winter time. They do not get cold under that fur but they will start crawling if something happens to their host.

I don't see ticks in the winter at all. Not on mink, coyotes, fox skunk or the horses. Ticks have to be out to get on animals. It is too cold for them here to be out in the winter. We are going to have a week of 10 to 25 below for highs and lows. That cuts the tick out, and it does not take that, they have not been out for a couple months. When 30 degrees is cold, you have bugs all winter.

Yeah, ticks are not like fleas, they don't live year around on critters around here, and I'm in a warmer spot than MJM.
I mounted a buck for a friend of mine who lives a couple of states further south of here and I was amazed when I found dead ticks in/around the ears on the cape (killed somewhere between Nov 9 and say the 15th). I've never seen an attached tick to a South Dakota deer I've either killed or cut up. Most of our deer are taken from about Nov 10 through Dec 7. Maybe there were ticks on November SD deer this year, it was awfully mild for temps but I haven't knocked over either a deer or antelope in about a decade and the current deer killing kid is in the Army and whacking them in another state...
