Trying to trap out the beaver on my property. I don't want to leave any seed for next year. I want them gone. I've trapped 6 so far, 3 good size adults and 3 young ones that I would say were around 10 pounds each. I believe I have a couple kits left. They have to be very young. They fix the dam just by laying sticks. haven't figured out to use mud yet. Nothing is interested in castor mounds. I think they are too young for that? Other than castor mounds and grippers in the trenches, anyone have tricks for the young ones?

If they are fixing the dam make a couple dam break sets.

I make Feeder pockets Left and Right of the existing dam overflow. Peeled feed sticks behind a 330 or 660.

You can use birch oil or oil sac off of a Family member you caught.

Beaver are about 5 bucks now and PA makes you work for them with these laws. Tell the game commision to trap the rest- make them use their stupid laws and waste gas checking them.

You don't have to abide by regular trapping laws when trapping animals causing damage to your own property, do you?

Food lure. If that are that small, you can almost treat it like muskrat trapping.

I'd try giving them a little break, then monitor and regroup.

Can you trap at the house. Set the den entrances, bank den channels.

Rip out the dam to natural flow, this will limit the beavers movements to their channels which will be easy to see when the water is lowered to natural flow(the channells will be the onlu place there is any water).Set 330's in the channels upstream and downstream(between the house and dam) from the house

With all the restriction put on you, I suggest you move to another State. That will solve your beaver problem and much more. smile

In PA, it is illegal to place a trap within 15 feet of a dam. It's illegal to disturb a dam. It's illegal to place a trap within 15 feet of a lodge or disturb a lodge and finally, it's illegal to place a trap within 15 feet of a den opening, be it in the bank or lodge. Hence my problems.

My guess is you have an old wise female there (at least). You won't catch her in a bodygrip at this point. You'll have to trap her like an old wise coyote. Welcome to ADC work where you have to catch every last one.

You can set bank dens as long as it is not a beaver house. Your not aloud to place traps within 5 ft of a den entrance on land but underwater sets is legal. Big difference between a hole in the bank and a beaver house. [Linked Image]
If it is a legit nuisance problem to a private land owner try contacting your local officer and talk with them sometimes these laws are bent in favor of a adc job setting.

Sounds like Wisconsin's laws when I trapped there 25 years Ago...

Find some good trails that are just outside the 15ft range and blind set with snares. The young ones will stay close to there huts. There’s normally a few good trails where they are coming out of water constantly close to there hut. If no snares then foot holds work. I agree with what has already been said it’s more then likely a older wise one. These blind sets will also take care of it. Also go below the dam even if there’s little sign in the creek below you’d be amazed at how far the older ones travel up or down them creeks. Make a few castor mounds that tends to get them to put there hard down when it’s not in there established territory.
