So my first year solo trapping here. I've helped friends run lines before with some success. I have some apple scraps left from pie making the other day and I was thinking about cooking that with some pectin and extra sugar to make a sweet apple paste (i can only run DPs on the public land I can trap) and maybe throw some crappie scraps in there too. Might be too messy for a DP but tell me what you think. I also have some fermented corn from a batch of whiskey that went horribly wrong somewhere along the line. Super potent stuff. Would raccoons be interested in that? I know they're curious critters and will pretty much investigate whatever smells but any input would be great! Going for coons and skunks here.

It might attract deer but otherwise yes.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

In a pinch try some Jack mackerel from the dollar store if you run low mix it with dry cat food if you need more in a hurry.

If you are on the animals you might be surprised what animals in general will find interest in............. Get in front of them and you will see what you will learn. It is a never ending learning situation and what enjoyment comes with those years of learning and observing. All of your ideas will get interest I am sure. You may attract other animals too but that is trapping.

I’d suggest keeping that muck out of a DP trap. You’re going to want to use something they grab a hold of like cheap cat food. The apple paste will just get gunned up in the DP and on the coon’s fur. Cheap cat food will serve you very well.

This^^^^ is a fact about not putting gummy, messy baits in a DP

Marshmellows work well, but if they get wet, they get sticky.

Agree with the cat food for Dp's. If I needed something in a hurry for cubbies or other sets i would go pick up a couple tins of sardines in oil.
