I did for 15 years with Lakeshore Marine Detachment 231 into Lake Erie. Most years we donated all our proceeds to Juvenile Diabetes research. Coldest day was -7F Sadly our Detachment was disbanded and we lost the building for financial reasons. The local fireman's club now does it. This year on January 9th. With last few years of warmth there has been no ice on the lake. Swimming at lake water temps of 40°F is still cold but I miss breaking ice for the swim.

Not me but the younger in family do this with their military buds. They have great time. Think the location is 3 rivers confluence but I could be wrong.

If Erie was a little closer , it'd be fun to do.

I don't do the swim in water with ice on it thing. At least not on purpose! My daughter did it several years in a row at the mid-winter festival our community has annually called Tip-up Town. It was sub-zero a couple of those years. All she got was a tee-shirt commemorating the event. Brrrrrrrrrrr. A fellow would have two belly buttons when he climbed out of that water.

I’m sure I’ll fall duck hunting this year, does that count? It sure does and is way riskier than a planned plunge. I remember one year was trapping muskrat and was walking along the river bank and the bank gave way and I was on the bottom of the creek in a flash, thought it was going to be the end as the water was around 10' deep , still remember shining my mag lite up to the surface wondering how I was going to get out of that mess. As luck would have it the current washed me to the shallow side, regained my footing and drained out my waders. I headed back to the truck , but at this time I could not use my hands as I in advanced stages of hypothermia and the air temp was about zero, clothes were freezing up. As luck would have it my buddy seen my truck and was waiting there to see my catch. He opened up my truck and got the heater going I sat in his truck till mine warmed up.

Absolutely stupid!
unless, of course, it begins in the sauna.

Guessing you'd need to chop a hole in the ice 160 to jump in ?
