Ok so y'all are like family and a pretty straightforward bunch of folks,so figured it's fine to ask such a politically incorrect question here ( probably couldnt pay me to ask this on FB )but I'm seriously curious about this. So I see most hunters ,who are white , tend to wear camo face masks gloves ect while turkey deer ect hunting . And it makes sense I guess, you know white stands out in the woods pretty good. My question is if your about the same color as me , light brown ya know. Do you think you need to do as much with camo ? And I'm serious about this question I've always wondered peoples thoughts on this

I personally wouldn't worry too much about it. Nature is a full color spectrum including white. It's the movement that'll get you exposed. :- )

I don’t turkey hunt. But, I heard they have great eye sight! I would at least where a face net and don’t move to much.

What you dont want to do is "flash" the deer. I've been busted by nosy does because of that before but, its not something I ever take serious enough to do anything about.

I've thought about this question before. And honestly, I think if you have darker skin you are at an advantage.. I have noticed that a more important thing than camo is having clothing, or in this case skin color that is as dark or darker than the surrounding environment. It is much more important than a camo pattern of any type.

What SJA said. It is more about movement. But, your skin tone probably isn’t as much of a problem as someone with less melanin.

In the group of friends who hunt here, one is black, and he blends right in and never wears anything on his face. Once , driving up to his house, he was sitting on his porch, when he didn't move he wasn't even seen . He blended right in with the logs behind him.

A natural camo that is quite advantageous .

Maybe camo is made to break up a solid patch of black or white. Of course you know most of us white southern boys who are outdoorsmen ain't exactly white. That southern sun gives us that Saltine color.

White , black, brown, purple. In that situation I would do something to mute the "shine" from exposed skin. A ball cap with a veil or a head net and some neutral colored gloves would be my choice

I've been out in the field with literally scores of hunters in the past 15 years or so. I have seen them in all sorts of camo and other types of clothing.
The one thing that always sticks out like a sore thumb is clothing that is lighter than the background, whether or not it is camo or something else.

I've never in my life been called "politically correct" so I will be happy to answer your question -- no, I don't think you need to paint up. In H.S there were a bunch of us that would paint up and run around our small town at night (just for fun). there were a couple of hispanics with us -- they didn't need the paint. Us white boys needed every inch covered in something. We would try to "catch " each other in our games -- you sure could spot the people that didn't have the appropriate color on. Don't ask me about the time we had the local,county, and state police after us for possibly robbing a bank though --- I have no knowledge of who it was, but it was awful hard to get out of town that night.

Maybe not totally cover your face with camo. But a few stripes of green and gray to kinda break up the solid color of your face.

I had a dark drill sgt in the Army who'd always put a couple streaks of lighter color on. When asked why he went out and hid without anything on his face. When we went to find him it was pretty easy to pick him out. When he put the streaks of green and gray on you really had to look to see him. Some of the guys didn't see him until he moved.

Learned this from Blackie...if you're out on the trapline and close to the roads and a car comes...face away from the roads. Odds are, unless you're wearing bright clothes that stand out,they wont notice you. Humans are well trained to recognize faces. Ive had game wardens drive right past me after a fresh snow with uncooperative coon on public land, not even 20ft off the road, not even slow down as they passed me.
