Back in the day my buddies and I would go full monty with the camo including makeup.
Those of us whiteys in camp would wear the dark colors
Not to feel left out , the only brutha in camp ( G-Money ) would wear the light colors
That was many moons ago , I don't wear much if any these days

How many times have you all walked up on Turkey with nothing on your face and not even wearing any camo? I know I have walked up on them plenty of times. Yes they do see in color. No need for camo in most hunting situations. Some hunters along with athletes use face paint to reduce the sheen reflecting off their face and also block the sun's rays especially in snow. If no sunglasses or goggles in the snow you can use ashes to prevent being snow blinded

Turkeys are the smartest and dumbest critter that you will hunt. Big thing is to break up you outline. Next would be to not get caught moving.
On that note, I have seen my father in law fiddle the flip around when birds were in range. Still got the shots. Other times birds at 100+yards would turn away for no apparent reason.
I do not wear gloves or a head net. Sit by a tree that is wider than you and do not get caught moving and you should do ok.
Also, set up in their bedroom or set up where they are going. When calling, play hard to get. You know, make promises and then cut way back on talking to him. If he does not have a girl he will be looking.

I think for some animals it matters and for others it doesn't -- as long as it has a pattern that blends into the natural suroundings-- a solid block of any color doesn't fit with nature.

White , black, brown, purple. In that situation I would do something to mute the "shine" from exposed skin. A ball cap with a veil or a head net and some neutral colored gloves would be my choice I agree. I think it is reflection and movement that get you. Especially with turkeys. I also think that purple is a much better color than black, brown, or any woodland camo.

I know blending in with your background is the best. Are there colors that you should avoid for turkeys?

Some good points made here. Large blobs of color stand out as does high contrast but I'll go with movement being the most telling. I started hunting in pre camo days. Pretty much the only one out there was the old wwii duck hunter prints. Only really serious turkey men used it but turkeys and the old guys that chased them were few and far between. Killed my first deer wearing blue jeans and a blue windbreaker. Dad and the old timers were right if you can just sit still. That said, it is my belief that camo allows you to get away with a few small things that a high contrast blob couldn't. It can also be a psychological confidence booster if you need that sort of thing but it won't correct stupid so the basics still apply. Given the choice between between hands and face I want my hands covered in spite of hating wearing gloves. It will surprise you to sit and watch the average human try to sit still and observe the fidgety hands. All the above applies to deer and other ungulates with there more limited visual acuity. Turkeys are a whole nother thing as bird vision is detail vision. You need every advantage you can get when chasing longbeards. But the short answer for our melanin blessed brother is yes you got a leg up on us palefaces. Just don't crack a smile.

Are there colors that you should avoid for turkeys? I don't know whether there are colors to avoid for turkeys............I would certainly think so. I don't think deer and other ungulates see in color whereas birds certainly do. As for purple............I noticed years ago when hunting moose with a couple guys ............I could never locate the guy in the purple jacket when in vegetation. His buddy, in camo, I could see easily.
