LOL.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Too Funny!

Forever in debt to my Father who introduced me to trapping.
May I be half the man he was.

you can see the 4x4 on the box

2wd until you select 4wd but you still need some weight in the back , who wants to run 4x4 unless you need it , it just wears out parts.

Why have those blocks sloshing / damaging your bed…when all you have to do ,..is move a switch on the dash to get you up a 2% incline….then take it out of 4 WD …and go about your business. The only folks that put weight in their truck around here are 2 wheelers ( which are few and Fah between ). You can tell Beav is old school…..lol…I use to put weight in my 67 Chevy Impala …way back !

I've been hunting that buck and one other one for about 2 weeks. His running mate has a wider spread but dosen't have the mass this one does. For the most part they have all been nocturnal until things got rough then It Is all about food. Three different times this buck and his buddy came Into the orchard but never gave me a decent shot. Two times the wind was wrong and they made me. Mon afternoon I had a south wind and got set up. About 4:30 a doe fawn came in and started feeding then she kept looking back so I got ready. Then he was there but this time he was alone. He stayed out of range for about 10 minutes then he made those last few steps out In the open. I put the bead on him and touched it off. Hunting with X bow. Heard the bolt hit, he hunched up and was gone. By that time It was pretty dark so I opted to wait till morning to take up the trail. I've made a few mistakes by getting on a blood tail to soon and lost some nice bucks. Well first thing Tues morning I was back at the location. Found the bolt covered In blood but no blood on the snow. I was shooting out of a ground blind so your pass through Is horizontal and you don't get blood right away. About 20 yards away I picked up the blood trail . Ray Charles could have followed that trail. Of coarse It headed for the big timber. He went about 500 yards or so then to my luck piled up right In one of the neighbors back yard.
No one was home and I called two friends but no one was around to help. There was no way this old guy was going to drag that deer out to the road. So I got a hold of another neighbor and he got the loader tractor and drove up Into the yard we loaded It and drove It back to my truck. It has A 22" Inside spread and has two 1" stickers on his brow times so I'm calling It a 10 pointer.
My tags are filled so that other buck Is safe til next fall.

I'm going to keep those cinder blocks In the back of the truck, that added weight has saved my butt more then a few times.

Yep the house mouse posted the pics. LOL

That is a great deer and photos.

I had a really nice buck prior to the season opener on camera. He wasn't quite as big as yours, but he was a big 8 pointer. Two days before opener, he got hit and killed about a block from my house on the county road. Kinda wrecked the season for me. Glad you were able to put your tag on that dandy.

cinder blocks may not be the best weight but it is very common here , I live 20 miles from the Beav to be driving on dry pavement for miles then come across a section with wind blowing snow across it then it may be every few hundred yards for a while and every turn.

a little weight and your back end doesn't want to slide out and your not in and out of 4wd every few hundred yards or driving on dry pavement with the 4wd on

this may be hold over behavior from when we used to have to get out and lock hubs , then unlock them and go in revers every time we used 4wd it was easier to add a little weight and keep in 2wd unless we really needed 4wd

I do drive a 2wd truck , I have a topper and tool boxes filling my bed so I haven't had to add any weight I just don't take it out either.

my son drives a little S-10 2wd he noticed how much the back end wanted to slide around till we got the right amount of weight in , with a little weight the back follow the front around corners

Your a brave man Pete…to own a 2 wheel drive pick up in snow country. I had a guy drop off a 2wd pick up at the shop for repairs …and had a dusting of snow on the ground…couldn’t get it in the garage…lol ..

I drove a 2 wheel, extended cab long box half ton for years. Posi 3.73 rear end, good tires and 300 lbs of tube sand in the bed. Only time I got stuck in snow was a 14 inch snowfall of wet, heavy snow drifted higher than the front bumper. Spent a few hours playing cards in the farmhouse next to where I got stuck til the road got plowed open.
