Time to learn a new skill. Start making your own.
Has crossed my mind. Just short on time and a little leery of mixing up a batch on my own with no experience.

Rumor is insurance shut down GOEX. Two mishaps in ten years and insurance was just cost prohibitive.
People have been making their own powder for a thousand years. Like everything firearm related follow the safety rules. Goex had some mishaps but no one was hurt. Make small batches. Do your milling away from buildings animals and humans. Mill dust in a pile burns too slow to be useful. It needs granulated. Mill dust in the air is like grain dust.. VERY flammable and explosive.

I suspect insurance was a factor but explosions at BP facilities is a fact of life. Facility design, layout, and operating practices improve safety for employees but equipment is going to be damaged when an explosion happens. That has to be factored into the cost of doing business.
Other factors may have played just as significant a part as insurance costs. Given the precipitious decline in traditional ML shooting and a reduced need for BP by the military, I think the Goex facility was operating well below its design capacity. Facilities operate most economically when run at capacity so that means their fixed costs had to be spread over a smaller quantity of product, and the demand was going to continue to decline. Schutzen was already selling below Goex so Hodgen was looking at a declining market share in addition to a declining market. They decided they would rather invest in products with growth potential. As much as I hate it, it makes business sense. Anyone taking over the Goex facility is going to be faced with the same issues, likely with pockets not nearly as deep as Hodgen.

I have a dozen boxes or so of the old Pyrodex 50 grain pellets they are quite old, but are in original plastic boxes with plastic wrap. Never opened. Do you think these would serve your needs? Like I say they are old bout 20 years. I'm in central Indiana, do you know if they can be shipped leag. Will give you 2 boxes gratis just to help out a fellow Hoosier. They fit my old 50 cal's perfectly. Case

CaseXX you cant ship that legally without a hazmat contract with UPS. Expensive. Unless your starting a business its cost prohibitive.

Yep. Just called back. has Schuetzen and Swiss. Haz mat is 80 something now. Makes 5 pounds of Schuetzen powder about 200 bucks. Cost to make the "good stuff" at home is pricey too. I have not tried the tool to make pucks but all the commercial producers use pressure. One of the big problems the confederacy had was lack of good powder. You can make stuff that pops pretty easily but quality takes some equipment. I wonder how well a complete black powder equipment tool set would sell? One of you entrepreneurial types ought to put one together.
