If the breech plug is removable, yes. Much less cleaning that way.

My advice is to shoot it out. Then clean it. Its a pain sometimes but its the best imo.

do unto others as you would have them do unto you

If it has a removable breach plug you can push everything out, it won’t go off.

Or as Yukon said, shoot it into a safe direction and just take the 20 minutes to clean it. If you don’t have time to clean it properly and store it properly then may I suggest not using a muzzleloader.

Are you allowed to transport muzzleloaders with just the powder and projectile, as long as the primer is removed? How long is your season? If you are going to hunt again before the end, you could do that. Then clean after the season.

Yes you can transport as long as no primer. Season ends January 10th.

Thanks, my advice is to leave it alone and remove the primer until the end and you are done hunting.

If you take the breech plug out, the powder pellets should pretty much just drop out unless it’s really dirty. You’ll just have to push the bullet out then.

Yeah, I think that is why most states allow you to do that. I have an in-line so it is easier to remove the plug and push everything out. Rather than traditional muzzleloaders.

Hope you get a deer and it doesn’t matter!

Iowa is a constitutional carry state. You can carry any loaded gun anytime you want to, even hunting. ... well except certain buildings and places like that. No guns need to be unloaded or cased anymore while hunting or trapping.

Yes it is Rob. We used to have to have a concealed carry permit to not have your guns cased and unloaded but as of last July that is no longer the case.

I don't how corrosive the powder in the primers you fired before loading the rifle dave but I'd shoot it and clean it the end of the season regardless.

Definitely, then next season you don’t forget that you left it loaded and cause an injury to yourself!

Coonman how many times have you taken the gun from the warm to the cold and back to the warm?
Did you hunt in any bad weather?
Condemnation is not your friend
Shoot it and clean it. Things last when you take care of them.

I definitely would. Just sitting in the barrel, the pellets are not doing the barrel any favors. Breech plug corrodes too. Only problem I find is the humidity change from extremely cold to a warm house can cause misfires or hang fires.

Are you saying having loaded firearms in a truck or home is dangerous?

Maybe the part where he said don’t forget that you left it loaded and cause an injury to yourself…
