Judging from that picture, if we could use 220's on dry ground in Arkansas, you could catch grey fox with marten sets.

Over a period of 10 to 12 years, back in 60s and 70s I shot 3 gray fox out of a persimmon tree. The was a patch of about 30 trees on my cousin's farm. When I would go there, squirrel hunting, I always made a point to be there in early morning and last light. When the fruit was ripe, those old gray fox couldn't pass it by.

I have heard gray foxes could climb trees but I always imagined a leaning tree they kind of ran up.
That picture leads me to believe they cn climb like cats or squirrels For those that may not be aware... Gray fox, unlike red fox have retractable claws like a cat. Check out a set of gray fox tracks on flat sandy ground... no claws showing. Red fox on the hand, do have claw prints like coyote or a house or pet dog. Garry-

We started seeing those gray fox up here maybe ten years ago. They had become evening visitors at the bear baits seeking rodents. Watched them do a lot of that. Thought they would do well being able to climb up and away from the few coyotes the wolves have left live but the last few years I’m not seeing them anymore. Big hawks and owls?

Osky We had a good number of Grays here locally a few years back. ( !8-20 yrs) Our Reds were nearly gone from Coyote predation. I always assumed the Grays were evading the Coyotes by climbing out of their reach. Then, in about 2 years time, the Grays were nearly gone. I had a flurry of customers bring me Grays to mount/tan that one fall......all were actually found dead! I think they got hit by a disease like distemper. It near wiped them out hear abouts. Cool photo TW

Osky They were hit really hard by distemper in 2019 in this area. I was catching more greys than reds for awhile, now they are pretty much gone.
