Monsters in Appalachia: A Collection of Stories. Great book so far. Saw it on a documentary I was watching about the mothman sightings.

Recently finished "Acid for the Children" by Flea. Haven't started a new one yet, but "Till We Have Faces" by C.S. Lewis is the plan.

Nine Years Among the Indians 1870-1879 by Herman Lehman. Just about finished with it. Really interesting to read what he went through as a captive of the Apaches. Then on to the rest of the stack of books my wife gave me for Christmas. Might go to The Journals of Lewis and Clark, maybe My Sixty Years on the Plains by W.T. Hamilton.

I read that one several years back. It's definitely not a cheerful story. One part upset me a bit... Bet you know which part too.

A lot of McCarthy's stories are in the same vein with Steinbeck and Hemingway... "Life is hard and then you die" seems to be the general theme.

Read Blood Meridian, All the Pretty Horses, and The Crossing. Outstanding reads all but gloomy to say the least. Agree on taking a break from such writings. Will read The Road next. The Crossing has some wolf trapping in it.

Salty piece of land. Read it every January. I ordered the hunters game from all the suggestions here but ain't cracked it open yet.

Good Friends, Good Guns, Good Whiskey ... selected works of Skeeter Skelton! I mentioned to my wife last summer I would like a copy. She surprised me this Christmas!

Honestly. The journal’s of Lewis and Clark. For the second time. There is some repetitive stuff in there but overall it’s extremely hard to put down. Reading firsthand accounts of how our ancestors conquered a wilderness is exciting. The discipline and determination of those men is astonishing. Nowadays we complain about getting wet while outside. These men endured the Pacific Northwest with almost no shelter and traversed the Rockies twice with almost zero food. They spent something like a week in view of the Pacific Ocean but were unable to get there due to weather.

I have both of Scott and Cathy Sibley's books on horn making, and one or two more by other authors. Been planning on making a Southern Banded for a while, just haven't managed to get around to turning a mandrel for making the bands... Got the wood picked out and sitting on the shelf, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Just finished "A Man To Match The Mountains" now reading "50 Years A Hunter And A Trapper". Both good easy reads but hard to put down.

I would read the road for 45 mins at night then, all misty eyed walk into all my kids’ rooms and give them hugs, then walk outside the next morning heading to work with a whole new appreciation for life I’ve got. You know it’s a good book when it puts you into a story so deeply you can’t stop thinking about it. I think blood meridian will be the next book of his I read, or no country for old men.

Prepare yourself for Blood Meridian. It may be the greatest book ever written.

Just finished that as well. Tough going in those days. Reminded me of Daniel Boone who would spend 6 months trapping and hunting enough furs to take home a load of life-changing money, only to have the Indians steal his whole outfit, so he turned around and did it again and the Indians stole it all again. Then they killed two of his sons. Unreal hardship a lot of early trappers went through.
