So, should the Riflescope be equal in cost of the rifle or 1/2 the cost of what you paid for the rifle ?

I don't think it is as much of a rule or ratio as it used to be , there are some really good scopes for 200 dollars

it has more to do with what features do you need the scope to have to do the type of shooting you do

if you zero a gun once and never mess with the zero you don't need fancy target turrets or a first focal plane scope

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I rather have a $1000 scope on a $300 rifle. You can't hit want you can't see. All scope are not the same. I remember putting $605 Leopold's on my both my sons $400 Remington 700's back in the day.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote!

Just saying I think the old addage it's kinda dying off. Honestly you have alot of good glass now days for half the price of most rides. Been seeing ALOT of people using the likes of ARKEN ,Vortex, SWFA and similar on guns that are in the $12-$1500 range. What used to cost $1000 can be had for $4-500 for the same quality today. It's also come out alot of scopes are made buy the same places just re labled and sold for more for the name. And also you gotta be honest with what your doing. If you just gonna be shooting Bambi out of a box blind @ 100yd max a few times a year do you really need all the features an expensive scope will offer ? Honestly if I $100 Nikon keeps the zero in that situation welll. Now if your gonna be cranking turrets, having something that's getting bummed around all do in the truck ect then yeah that's a different story.
I mean a good scope is a good investment regardless just wanted to throw that out there
Just my two cents

I think it is a no-brainer that if you have an inferior scope, the quality of your rife is insignificant.

Since I started buying Vortex Scopes I have spent much less than in the past. A 2-7x32 crossfire or a 4-12x44 can do anything I need, and for well under $200 ea., under $100 with a good sale.

I'm not shooting 1000 yards across mountains though,,, 350-400 across a corn field maybe.

Very, very true.I see alot of guys up here insisting on $500 + scopes, then sit in a blind with a bait pile 60-80 yards away.

Ive got a few rifles that the scope costs more(mostly the savage ones)...Unless the gun is beater truck gun, im not going to worry about the cost of the scope(course its not going to get a scope).

I have different name brands, Nikon, Burris, Leopold, Swarovski . A new name on the market is Arken. I got one to try and love it. I like it better than my Vortex Strike Eagle. Vet owned and all their scope are US made. Only Vortex Razor HD are us made in the US, the rest are China made. The best selling point for Arken was their coupon code - Go Brandon - that coupon took 100.00 off the price. Free shipping and like them all lifetime warranty. Clear as a bell, great tracking, lighted reticles l that won't blind you. 34MM tube, I think all their reticles are Christmas tree. Dang good scope, great scope for under 500.00
