Has anyone sold any coons caught in Texas or Louisiana this year? I have not trapped the last couple of years and have not been keeping up with the market. Is there a market for them and if so who is buying them? What kind of price have they been bringing?

This is RP Outdoors website. They are in Mansfield, La.

Fur prices are pitiful....especially coon.

"Clean green beaver castor is $25.00 a pound." Their beaver castor price is very poor, even in today's market.

I think RP's fur buying is a middle man for GWFC. In other words...they forward/sell what they buy to them. So, a bit of a profit margin/handling fee is adjusted for...lol

I just got back from a trapping trip there and sold biggest coon for only 2$ and that was the best price I averaged 1$ for most of them.

... that’s what I hear

.. years ago he had a man traveling that would buy in Texas ... I carried a nice pile of hides over to Joaquin to sell to him... when the buyer pulled up an ol hand ask him “are you the furrier? “ ... buyer looks down at his arm hair and then back up at that hand and says “ furrier than most I reckon “ lol

.. the ol hand turned to me in all seriousness and said “ he’s got a sharp tongue on him “

.. I’ll never forget that lol

last time I called RP's I barely got the word coon out of my mouth when they said we don't want any . That was two years ago. I was hoping some new buyers would have come on the seen by now. I guess I was hoping for a miracle. Do they do any better if you ship them to auctions further north?

Probably not worth the effort to put those southern coon up and ship to auction. They may bring a dollar or two more on average but you will have to extract shipping and commission charges. There is only one auction house now (Fur Harvesters)...and if you havent heard....NAFA folded a year or so ago.

$1 for a coon hide, off the animal AND fleshed and dried?

I am guessing it would take close to an hour to skin and flesh one (never done it) and even if you could do 2 an hour you would be going backwards

My guess would be they don't want any period at that price but maybe they have people flocking to them to sell $1 coons laugh
