Listened to a great podcast with Wetherby talking about the ammo shortage. He explained it well. There's something like 5 million new gun owners since 2020. Thats individual gun owners, not how many new guns were purchased. Most of these gun owners bought .22, .223, 9mm, and .308. These new gun owners are trying to learn how to properly shot and put in some range time with all their new guns. So the demand for these calibers has gone up a ton in the last 2 years. Most manufactures do runs of a caliber, then change out the dyes and reload runs of ammo from a different caliber. With these 4 calibers being in such high demand, manufactures are doing longer runs with these, but still need to do other less popular calibers for clients. While they are doing less popular runs, they are totally running out of the high demand calibers. Plus the ammo scare has caused old gun owners to stock up on more ammo. He mentioned that a bunch of manufactures are building new facilities to help with the demand, but they didn't start right away. They didn't want to dump millions of dollars into new facilities and hire new employees if this was just a temporary issue. But since that all the new gun owner data has come out, they started building. Once these facilities are built, the supply will start picking up again. So in the next year, we should have shelves full of ammo again.

Only problem with the excuses of new gun owners is...there's been a shortage for almost 30 years now.

Best way I know of is to get rid of the people elected this past go round. Best way for the ammo to “reappear” is to vote in conservative people that do not threaten our 2nd amendment!! Pretty simple, one would think.

This is a "through" the grapevine" rumor so take it for what it is...

A couple months back I was told to expect another ammo/reloading component shortage in early 2022.

But... After the toilet paper debacle I am starting to wonder if stuff like this is a psyop of some sort... Start a rumor of an impending shortage to induce panic buying and you can create the shortage... Self-fulfilling prophecy.

We'll just have to see if the rumor bears out.

I still can't find primers or .22 rat shot anywhere.

i had two boxs of 22 rat shot. gave one to a friend of my wifes. shoots snakes with it. i told her to use it sparingly. i havnt seen any for years either

Midway USA had some federal fusion 165 gr in stock this morning when I was making my rounds. It might be gone by now but worth checking out

Academy Sports has some good stuff but you ain't gonna like the price.

There's a lot of ammunition going through the small online auction sites. Some goes cheap and some goes way over full retail. 9mm and .40 usually go over full retail. Mixed lots of ammunition mostly sell cheap. I've done very well on 12 gauge ammunition. There's a lot of very old ammunition for sale and a lot of brand new ammunition.

Was in a farm supply store here last weekend. Plenty of handgun ammo in 9mm. 300 Savage ammo plenty of boxes if you want to spend $54 a box.

No pistol ammo around here for a long time now.

I've bought through Midway several times and they ship it here.
N.Y. must have something else going on.

NY safe act had a component that made it so only dealers could sell ammo.
someone here told me that that part never got implemented or was stopped so they could still get mail order ammo
however a lot of online sellers just don't want to deal with it
