Which one is the better trap ? Looking at getting some traps that are designed like this for an.... experiment got some Duke #3's not overly happy with them. What about that victors ? Do the pans sit lower ? What about the leavers ?

When I was young I was happy to have any hand me down or inexpensive set of traps I could get my hands on. 20 yrs ago I started investing in better gear and I have never regretted it.

I am a huge fan of both the Montanas and MBs and bobcat specific I find the Sleepy Creeks to be easily my fav. Something to consider anyway

What about the dukes do you not like? I drilled out the pans and post and put in brass screws and night latched. Pan sits low.

After 55+ years on the line I can say Victors without a doubt. I have been using modified 3N's as one of my bread-and-butter traps for years.

Victors 100%....new to trapping, but all it took was a few traps to see that quality purchases meant more than having to modify things left and right because they aren't right.

Pan sits too high for what I want ,leavers are stupid long and don't come up as much as I need for this project

Bend the dog a little bit and the pan will sit below the jaws
Cut the levers down
I know you like to tinker with traps

I do not own any #3 victors but if they are better than the #3 dukes they would be amazing. Mine (d-3) have the extra springs on them and use them for coyotes and beaver. I dont care which foot the beaver puts in they are caught. I trapped with a very experienced beaver trapper and he said that we went 85 hits without a pull out. I can not think of a pull out since. Now I had the #4 Dukes and the bridger #3 ( they are very similar) before them and we had too many pull outs with them. I like the D-3's, mine go chain direct to superstakes with two swivels......jk

Are you convinced yet wolfdog? If not, buy 1 victor and one duke. Hold em side by side and compare for yourself. If you choose the dukes, I will personally send you the money in cost difference to buy the victors instead. You have my word on that!

Wolfie,..... I am pretty sure you are just the man who can turn your unhappiness with those Duke # 3s into a love affair with them. I know an old man (who I see every day) who took a plain ole Duke # 3 and with some tinkering (very self rewarding) turned them into a low pan coyote catching dream machine !!! Maybe someday he will leave the dozen or so he made to you in his will [Linked Image]
