I was there and prices were awful! I do not have any averages, only my own observations. I think there were 5 buyers.

My rats averaged $ 3 with a high of $ 3.60. They were good winter rats and I suspect the buyer is going to make some bucks on them.
My Mink went for $ 6 males, $ 2.25 females. Should have been higher.
Red Fox, about $ 8.
Beaver, most less than $ 10, about $ 7. Don't know what good castor went for.
Coyotes, Less than $ 20
Fisher< I did not see any higher than $ 20. I was offered $ 17 and no saled mine
Weasel $ 3
I saw no gray fox , bobcats
Only saw 4 pine marten..

I was there and stayed until almost all 300 lots were auctioned and most rats didn’t break 2, with the exception for some nice rats going for 3+, some as high as 4+. Red foxes were averaging 10-15, not 8s. Most beaver went for less than 10, with some nice 50lb plus going for $10-12. Most of the coyotes there were selling in the 15-25 window. A lot of fisher went no sale, but I definitely don’t remember anyone given the option to no sale. There were over a dozen greys which went for 10-15 and there were 5 raw cats, 2 frozen. Frozen cats small 1 went no sale, other around 20 and one of the put up cats went for 47. There was only 1 ermine that went for $3, the other no sale. My castor went for 50, a few guys castor didn’t sell and one guys sold for $65/lb and a couple others went for $50-55

Castor selling at near record highs around the country
and the best NY's finest can muster is $65.00 a pound.

Great job NYS fur buyers.

Seeing the results of the sale, I suspect most buyers were middlemen ? Heck #3 castor is worth more than $65/ lb..

Every year I look to attend and every year I seem to miss it. Is this auction advertised anywhere? I want to make sure I get there next time.

I saw a combination of factors. The regular auctioneer was home sick with Covid. A substitute took his place. A good man, but not used to the buyers. One strong buyer against a few weak ones.I think he saw the situation, dominated, took advantage, and bought a lot of stuff cheaper than what the trappers should have been paid. I expect buyers to make a profit, but this sale really turned me off. I would love to see the averages.

The regular auctioneer, Bob Hughes was ill with Covid. Bob Sheedy filled in as auctioneer; a great guy, always willing to help. Perhaps "No Sale" was not announced, but it has had a long time policy that a seller, if not satisfied with the price, can immediately after the highest bid, say no sale, take back his fur, with no cost to the trapper or buyer.
Also, At the time of the highest bid, a trapper can bid higher, hoping the buyer will accept that.
This year I "no saled" all of my fisher, and skulls. The problem with no sales is where do you take them next?

What kind of skulls do you have, and what are you hoping to get for them?
