Who all traps with a buddy? Thank God mine buddy was with me today when I got caught in my MB 750 laminated beaver trap. I had caught a beaver and taken him out of the trap then handed him up the step bank to my buddy. Then I set the trap and I'm guessing I did one of the stupidest thing that I've ever done, instead of reaching up thru the frame of the trap to set it I tried to set the night latch from the top side when it got my thumb. I was knee deep on a very muddy bank and bottom, the drowning chain was staked down and I was caught super deep on my thumb. There was no way I could have gotten out the trap with my hand blocking the side lever. My buddy Burke jumped down the bank and some how got me free.

Yep now my thumb is black & blue and swollen up twice the size as normal and I can count my heart beat thru it. Man of man do I owe my buddy for helping me. I'm guessing he will have 2 extra beavers to skin (over his 2 also) out this even because my right hand is out of commission for a few days.

I'm a MB 750 Club Member. Life lesson learned the hard way!

Check that 1 off my bucket list that I sure as heck didn't know was on my bucket list. The pain is right up there with some of the other dumb things I've done before.

If I have trouble getting my glove under the 750 jaw to night latch it I take a stick and tap on the pan until it clicks. Works for me. I usually have my wife with me beaver trapping. Helped once when I got my foot in a deep set Bridger 330.

Most of our winter through the ice trapping is done with two of us, as things can happen. We are not using large traps however, unless we make a rare otter set or two.

I used to trap with a guy from Abilene and he was the nut job that cleaned up all the skulls and claws from mangy coyotes. He was as good of a friend as I've ever had and I should look him up soon.

When trapping beaver I always have wire cutters and a j-hook tool on my person. I figure at least I could get out with the trap on me till I got someone to help

I have know one to trap with and most of my sets are not close to home. There for I seldom if ever set in water or any place I can't walk out of. Now days I am hanging more cable than traps. Several years ago I decided that if I am not in a situation that I couldn't get back to my truck and drive to get help with a trap attached to me it wasn't a idea good to set it. I know I am passing on a lot of opportunities but I'm not doing this for a living so it isn't as much of a factor by passing up on sets.

For fur trapping I never had a partner who was reliable or honest.
Back during the old fur boom days I took on a partner to get access to trap on the land where he had permission. He went along only one time before season to show me the land. He turned out to be a drunk and continued to drink and quit trapping that year. I paid him his share of the profits. I got permission and fished, hunted, and trapped that wonderful place for another 10 years until it was developed. It was great for fishing, land and water trapping, waterfowl hunting on water, goose hunting in the crop fields, and deer hunting.

After 41 years of trapping, I caught my hand in a 330. Complacency can be dangerous. For the last 5 years I have been more careful.

In my nuisance trapping business, I have a part-time helper who I take along on any jobs involving a ladder and any otherwise dangerous jobs.

Ol’ beaver peeler has done that twice in the last couple of weeks. He traps alone and had gotten quite good at extricating himself from various sizes and styles of beaver steel.

Have always trapped by myself, ever since I started. Sometimes I wish I help especially in the spring chasing beaver. I don't have time by myself to trap everything that I could trap.
