Uhmmm odd , I never felt that way when I found out some one had copied my ideas on my calling unit into their unit,
and when I contacted them they told me that quote, after which I asked for my residuals on his sales, he hung up !!

I'm of a slightly different demographic as you older guys...I don't mind most song covers, but all of these movie/sitcom reboots are ridiculous!

Maybe it should be "Imitation is the purest of flattery and sometimes a form of intellectual theft."

she is good but she just isn't Janis Joplin

now you ready for a twist , Bobby McGee was the record producers secretary and the song was written by Kris Kristofferson as he was finishing his last days in the LA National Guard as a chopper pilot

I usually hear a few covers when I am out and live music is onstage. I am feel entertained but seldom think the cover comes anywhere close to the original.

Here are a couple noteworthy exceptions:

For a long time I thought Linda Ronstadt's voice was unparalleled until:

And then there is this guy, FYI he can sing Don Williams almost as good as he does ol Conway stuff

Although I actually like the Keith Whitley version better, this one is pretty good.

Of all the songs Home Free has covered I think this one is their best.

Jimi Hendrix took several original "mediocre" songs from various artists and made those songs famous into today's music.

"Whiskey in the Jar" dates back to around 1650. Thousands of people have sung it in the last 370 years or so. I posted both the versions you mentioned earlier in this very thread, plus other versions of it.

the vast majority of the time the covers are a poor replacement for the original.
I don't bother even listening to covers.

Besides that a top rate band/singer should be making its own music instead of redoing whats already been done.

There are a rare handful of covers that end up surpassing the original. 1 out of a thousand or so.

Seems a lot of people don’t understand what covers are.
