So I've done very little flooring so Id thought id try to upgrade. I have a small closet right behind the front entry door im making into a mudroom. The floor itself including inside the closet is only 32 square feet. 4 feet by 8 feet long before it goes to carpet that connects to the living room.
Before, it was mortar with tile and like a sheetrock or something laid down underneath. I pulled all that up, overall it was half an inch thick.

Laying down the new vinyl planking, is it better to run it long ways or across and stagger it in thirds either way? I also have the original vinyl peel and stick flooring that stuck to the baseboard. I could lay it directly on top or add a quarter inch board to pick it up to the previous level but I dont think i would have too.

Just scratching my head on how it should be put down to look good to the eye in such a small space. Found maybe one picture on google.. lol not much help.

I'd snap a few together and lay ea way and see what was most appeasing to your eye....you are the one that is going to be looking at it.

I agree.

I would also consider which way produces the least wasted material.

Usually you run flooring with your longer room dimension. Ultimately it is up to you though.

Just to be different why not in a Herringbone pattern?

it complicates the process and requires more material because of the pattern, but I think like mentioned above I'll pick the wall across the door length wise. Adding the 1/4" board underneath the vinyl flooring will also help with the doorway entry. Thank yas, was seeing if I could pick any additional ideas that I wasnt thinking. Its straight foward but wanted to ask.
