Was looking at the on line ad for one in Topeka this weekend. https://rkshows.com/event/topeka-ks-gun-show-2/ Said this Safety is first at all of US Weapon Collectors so we will have security and check-in points for the safety of our attendees and vendors. does that mean you can only enter unarmed? Says its for safety. Dont think I will attend if they think I am safer unarmed.

Can't carry at the gun shows here either. (at least they say that). I'm sure there must be a reason, but I don't what it is. Its been that way for years too, nothing new.

Even in NY we go in armed. The check-in points here are for guns you bring in to sell. They put a zip tie through the magazine and action. I guess it's supposed to keep you from loading it and shooting it. Lol Not like they frisk you down for weapons or anything.

Usually it means they check all firearms coming in the door to see if they're loaded or not, and making sure some idiot doesn't try to slip in with a "Destructive Device", like a live mortar round!

most shows ask to see anything your bringing to sell , show or trade at the front door and they verify unloaded and zip tie them in some way to limit your ability to load them without removing the zip tie
so on a lever gun they might place a zip tie from trigger guard over the hammer so that the hammer can't be moved
on a revolver they might have you open the cylinder and place a zip tie through it so that it won't close
all the guys at tables have wire cutters and can cut the tie if they need to inspect then re-tie them
the number of guns that get to the front door loaded is a little scary even if only 2-3 a show because the owners had no idea they left them loaded.
I have never had anyone patting down patrons at any show I have been too
only ever seen one guy pull a loaded gun at a show and he had a badge which didn't make him any less of an idiot.
most dealers are carrying hot even if no one else is

Long ago I was at a large private members only gun show where a guy was accidentally shot and killed by an idiot with an unloaded gun. That makes reasonable safety checks seen like a wonderful idea.

Many years ago I was at a gun show in Stevens Point, WI. It was so crowded it was pretty much shoulder to shoulder. I was at a booth where a guy had a bunch of revolvers and folks were picking them up, aiming (safely for the most part). I saw a guy put a revolver, looked like a .357, back down, and when I took a closer look, the cylinder was full. I quickly pointed that out to the dealer, who turned bright red, who took the revolver back under the table and unloaded it.
I still shudder to think what would have happened if someone would have pulled the trigger in that kind of crowd.
