Sell your 1.5 coils now, unless you heavily modify or water trap...I switched over to 1.75 Sleepy Creek coils (which is really a #2)...Added heavier dogs, and have done fine.

As populated as Maryland is a big' ole #3 will make you a lot of enemies fast, IMO.

There are plenty of experienced trappers where these are, I’m confident they will keep them in check.

Keep telling yourself that. Let the inexperienced western trappers know how they have been doing over the last century or more at keeping them in check from expanding their range.. Lol, The govt unleashing mange and trappers, bounties, and countless people with guns sure has not stopped them. I’m guessing a few guys in Maryland are gonna have the same result. Coyotes are an amazingly adaptable animal, whether you like it or not be ready for them to be there shortly. Not a jab at anyone Hobbie, just an honest opinion. We had piles of reds here when I was young, now they are a fairly rare sight. Coyotes, just the opposite.

No offense taken. We are a series of small islands here, that’s a little bit different than the wide open west.

I hope you can keep the coyotes under control, Hobbie trapper. I honestly don't know enough about the subject to make a call. We have both reds and coyotes where I am. It may depend on food source.

I saw it happen fast in Jersey. From a novelty catch to every property having them in two to three years. Can’t say it hurt the red population there though. Had a bad feeling I’d move here and they’d find their way here.
Starting a new piece this weekend where there’s a small group vocal most nights. Was one lone dog there last year. I missed it barely early on where it missed the pan by less than an inch. Figured it would find some company by this year.

Reds increased in Nebraska with a heavy population of mangy coyotes. The fox just stay closer to towns and farmsteads. Lincoln NE has a good population of reds and coyotes both inside the city in the parks and such.

Yeah, we have seen more around the north eastern side of the peninsula/island. Y’all make sure you keep them down that way.

I would lie to keep my catch rate on them at zero.

If you want to drastically thin out the coyotes Import some Timberwolves in good numbers-they love killing coyotes.
