Don't start talking about treasury stock, that'll really get him going.

Really, when you think about it (or at least when I think about it) the market should not be 24,000 higher than it was 12 years ago.....that is just absurd as I see it....but I am not an expert on this stuff so it is just a 'gut' feeling that I have.

You're talking about the Dow and, quite frankly, no one pays much attention to it any more. But it is structured differently than the S & P 500 . The Dow is price weighted so higher priced stocks have a larger influence than lower priced stocks. Consequently, a stock like AAPL.....which is in the Dow 30 has a lot more influence in the 'average' since APPL is trading around 173$ than a smaller, non tech type of company that is trading at $35.

The S&P is really the better indicator.

Unless there's some kind of insider trading going on, what is there to hide? Unless theres a bunch of russian or Chinese people on the board of the trust, i dont see the problem.

I don’t think the Dow is weighted by stock price. Isn’t it weight by company value?

I would suspect that most of the liquid wealth held by the Ford heirs is in trust funds. It would naturally make sense that large purchases of stock would emanate from these trust funds.

No Charles you are thinking of the S & P 500. It is weighted by market capitalization. The Dow is price weighted

If they were trying to hide something why would the transaction be reported ? Using a family trust is likely a tax avoidance mechanism for further down the road. Nothing illegal or unethical about it.

In fact, everyone should strive to pay as little tax as possible at all times........IMO

Unless you're wealthy, then apparently it's a sin to avoid tax.

Paying the least amount of tax you can is each individual’s responsibility. Very foolish to pay more tax then you should. IMO. If the tax shelter is legal use it. At 58 I am saving to go to college some day. grin
