But it is structured differently than the S & P 500 . The Dow is price weighted so higher priced stocks have a larger influence than lower priced stocks. Consequently, a stock like AAPL.....which is in the Dow 30 has a lot more influence in the 'average' since APPL is trading around 173$ than a smaller, non tech type of company that is trading at $35. The S&P is really the better indicator. Mean As Nails
