I'm not a collector. Buddy had this hanging on his shed. Big square pan that reads "ONEIDA COMMUNITY LTD. No. 4 JUMP" Pretty poor shape...

Thanks for any information...

Jack

If it was in better condition it would be more collectable, it is about 115 years old. The humped cross was patented in 1907. This is the forerunner to the single under spring Oneida Jump, which started about 1910. If it was a #14, with teeth, then it would be very collectable.

As always, much appreciate your expertise snakecollector. Although fairly rusty, it appears to be plenty strong to hold a coyote or red fox, so I may go ahead and de-scent it a bit and catch a dog or two. I may need to beef up the chain a bit. I like using old traps...

Many thanks.

Jack

Would be a shame to see an all original trap of that era altered even if it isn’t in pristine shape in my opinion. Not all collectors can have the best of the best. Limited supply and funding dictates that eventually all the best will end up in deep pocket collections. That leaves traps that are less values for the rest of us who like to have a few old traps to admire. I have a few old hand me downs that made a catch and are now on the wall with the pelt. A fitting retirement I believe. Good luck Gulo, and when it catches, show pics please!
