Got 31 sets in today -- Wasn't even sure I was going to be able to after the broken wrist and the covid. I know, I know -- they were mostly for nutria, but trapping something is better than not trapping right? well maybe not. Anyway saw 5 nutes swimming around in the small part of the pond I was trapping today -- little beaver sign and there was a little otter sign. going to set on the neighbors place tomorrow time permitted (only had about 3 hours today). I wasn't even sure I could skin one until 2-days ago (had to shoot one on the back of my place just to prove I could) but all seems to work ok. I haven't tried fleshing yet -- that may be a challenge. Any way it was a nice day.

What do you think a decent nute is going to bring this year or do you get paid some adc coin for keeping them under control in some areas...?

No adc coin -- i just figure that i don't do much for the human race - this i can do. Of course most of the ground that I trap on are customers of my irrigation repair business. Hopefully i will get the same as last year (2$) -- got 5nutes, 1 coon, and 1 muskrat today. It was a few less nutes than I expected, but it froze good and hard last night so I am sure they didn't go as far as they usually do in a night.

Does a nute flesh like a mrat or a coon...?

Nutes would be more similar to a coon than a rat for fleshing. But far less fat.

Glad you're back out there at it Dave!

more like a coon -- but not as much grisle or as much fat. Easier than a coon and harder than a muskrat.

I tried one for the first time this year---- its meat. I don't have a sense of smell so my sense of taste is greatly diminished, and i couldn't get anyone else in the houshold to try it. The wife did say she would try beaver though - so that might be next on the list. Caught 5 nutes and 1 coon today.

Do you finish nutes on say adjustable coon boards? Isn't 28-30 inches a pretty average adult nute length from nose to where you cut the tail off??

Wow, so that nute is about 38 inches from nose to base of tail on that board? The tail is like a mrat's tail, right?

I have some boards made for nutria -- most of the boards are about 42" I get alot in the 26-30" range --- inside of mouth to base of tail. and don't bother with anything below 20 inside of mouth to base of tail.
