We use heat tape / trace tape. They last a few years and need to be replaced. Haven't' found one that works for very long. I cover the heat tape with the black rubber foam pipe insulation - similar to your picture just a different material. It keeps the heat right up against the pipes and valves and uses less electricity than light bulbs. They come with a built in thermostat so they turn themselves on and off as needed. It works well- until it doesn't.

I have put one of those IR chicken lights into my pump house / box with a temp controller so it kicks on when the temperature goes below 36F and turns off at 40F inside the box. That setup is working fine for me and its something that I don't have to look out for as it turns on by itself when needed. I got the programable temp controller of Amazon for 15 bucks if I remember right.
Let's go Brandon

I do have a thermal switch I can add but in town walmart didnt have a replacable plug stolen off my water pump for less than 7 bucks so i passed on that and hopefully ill remember to go to hardware and buy one so i can take the wire and wire it back into recepticle where it belongs. Then Ill have options of plugging other things in there like a light etc.
