How do y'all interpret that line? I think that when the SHTF and we reach TEOTWAWKI the meek will be the folks out in the boonies taking care of themselves off-grid. The folks in the cities that are dependent on everything but themselves will be the first to go. Thoughts?

Look up the original word used and it's meaning. If I remember correctly it has a bit different meaning that what we normally think of today with the word meek

I don't think we'll see it in our life time. I also think country folk and city folk are more of a symbiot circle than you think. It's not a given all country folk will make it and all city folk won't. People are resilient. It comes down to each individual on how they would make it. Some country folk ain't that smart and some city folk know a lot more than you think.

I think a lot of city folk will definitely make it. They'll form into gangs and it will be them that the country folk will need to defend themselves against. And a lot of the country folk will lose that fight.

I interpret it to mean that clever rulers corrupted the bible to control the people they ruled over.

I don't think the beatitudes have anything to do with SHTF or TEOTWAWKI.


I think Jesus was saying that those who depend on and trust in God to provide for and protect them will inherit the earth. By contrast, those who do not trust in God, but put their hope in their own strength, their own abilities, or their own craftiness and guile, will not inherit the land.


You might refer to Psalm 37 for further information on who will inherit the earth.

For context of this passage, remember that the Gospels (written all about Israel) is recorded during the 4th Gentile kingdom - Rome. They are historical narrative, revealed so that people today can know. How else would we know about Jesus the Son of God as the God-man? Mark wrote 1st, then Matthew, followed by Luke.

The Sermon on the Mount is provided to a primary audience of believers. How the narrator describes 5:2 is one of those, "Don't miss this!" pieces of the story plot, "He (Jesus) opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying"..... Go back to Genesis and see where in 1:3, "Then God said,".... and Creation was formed.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John, the Apostle begins his written recordings with the "Word" of God. Why? Well, because The Word, the Sound, the Voice of God is something we can only marvel at in awe. God speaks and it is done. It's hard for us to picture this power because when humans speak we throw in, "a person is as good as their word," but we realize people aren't always "true" to their word. Why? Because we sin. I sin.

God's omnipotent Word, Sound, Voice has fingerprints all over Scripture and every time God speaks... well we get the imagery of it all.

Chapters 5-7 of Matthew are 1st of 5 discourses recorded by the tax collector gathered up by Jesus as His disciple, and they are Jesus helping the Jews to understand He "is" the fulfillment of the OT Law. What the Law of Moses and the prophets had foretold for 1400 years. The Law. This first discourse has been called "The Sermon on the Love of God."
Chapter 10 is the commissioning of the 12 who would alter world history forever. Israel
Chapter 13 is the parables of the Kingdom Mystery
Chapter 18 is the teachings for the Church Present age
Chapters 24-25, the Olivet Discourse, is about the 2nd Coming

Note also, 26:1, "when Jesus had finished these words" (again the Power of God revealed so that we can all know these things = revelation = humans can't know God unless He reveals Himself)
..... we "see" God's BIG PLAN.

Every NT Book is written most especially to believers! The entirety of the Gospels is only 50+ days of recorded history of the life of Jesus, but what a 50+ days of Scripture account they are.
They are our written account during this/our Age of Grace, the time between the Ascension of our Lord and His 2nd Coming.

The humble of heart, "the meek, the gentle," will be in glorious company for all of eternity, according to God's Promise, recorded in the Beatitudes, and Jesus will be the Lion upon His return according to His Word.
