So question, probably gonna weld some up some but was considering a way to not loose them as much. Was thinking is adding a small lock washer like half way up the main rod so that I can slip my snare though it pull the swivel through and set it like that. All my snares have the swivel right next to the loop so I'm thinking once the catch is made the support will just kinda slid down the extension some and be there . Don't think it would work with regular snares but with ones like mine I'm thinking it might be something. Y'all ever try something like this ?

I think you'll find your snare supports tangled tightly in the snare cable.

If you're losing support wires, I'm going to assume you are not pigtailing annealed #9 onto a rebar stake or pole and welding them. This is the best support system out there aside from some type devil's hat pin support maybe, which may be as good. That is, if you aren't just anchoring your snare off a tree or something where you can use a very short support wire,,, then you can get by with lighter wire and still have a solid support. You don't want your support wire to budge until the snare fires shut. This may not be as much of a deal on k9s and cats but its huge for stuff like coons & beaver that will step through a loop if it doesn't fire shut fast. Also you want them all caught as close to the head as possible for quickest dispatch. It's well worth it to dedicate some rebar stakes to this. Try it with a dozen and see for yourself. You won't be sticking anymore wires in the ground, even with a loop on the end, lol.

Weld the wire to the stake where the vicegrips are...

Nah not to rebar stakes. I got some made up along with kill poles but now that I'm running out of a car it's alot of walking and kinda a pain to carry them. Not to mention my conditions are varied once minute it's hard packed red clay on a two track ( which makes me need my heavy hammer lol ) then it's deep mud on a dam or some of the field bottoms. Messing around with the rebar when I still had the truck wasn't as bad but I still need a few different sizes ( I know I do alot for a guy that doesn't catch anything lol !) what I'm gonna be doing now is the snare loop and swivel s hooked to a 10' extension with a loop on the end. And down here I'm going to be within 10' of something cable to. Gonna be making something along these lines [Linked Image]

I gotta little different design to make em work better how ever but wanted these because I could toss my snares ,extensions , light hammer and shook tool in a old map bag or something and just carry a half dozen or so of these supports in my hand . See I was thinking it would work because with a 10' extension after they're initially caught they would pull some cable away though what ever little attachment I have before it actually pops out the ground. I the couple times I've needs with this I never really got more then 8 or so feet away max .Or at least that's what I'm thinking. I mean I'm gonna have less then $1in each but would like to try to not loose them as much. Especially around water which is like my main concern. Kinda see what I'm thinking now ?

Are you snaring around water and that's why you're loosing supports or what? For around water, i prefer using cut down tomato stakes as they don't move and fairly light. Metal supports never work for me in soft conditions unless im using rebar supports but they suck to carry

WolfDog,
Take a look at this idea. Its not my idea, but I bought a bunch of em from Grandpa's Trading Post in Florida a few years ago. I don't think they sell em anymore. They were made by a Florida trapper and marketed thru GTP.

1/2 conduit...drilled holes for #9 wire...flat hammered end for easier driving and to lessen spin. About 12" long.

I use em on firm soil dams and crossovers for beaver. If used on soft muddy dams they could be made longer...say 18" to 24".

These obviously are for support only. Your snare would need to be anchored elsewhere.

BTW...my snares are attached to support using vinyl tubing as the whammy.

Works well...

4 of 5 neck snared, (only the dink got his legs through) out of 5 snares set,,,, my boy has been at this years....

[Linked Image]

SW we've used conduit for water stakes for years. Holds better than the same length 1/2" rebar so it should make a solid snare support as well...

I thought about making some conduit stakes but at some places I have to hammer em in hard sandy bottoms. Figured they would get beat up pretty bad over time.

I can’t get mine off of the stake to lose them a buddy made me a die that makes them look like ADC supports the other end take a plastic whammy.

They aren't as durable as rebar for hammering on but they can take it pretty well for a few years. We have some that are a little mushroomed out on the top. Most places, they can be "stepped" into the ground without a hammer here, in the water.

I may have to make a few. Most of these newer mud dams they will work fine. Easy to make too. Amd lighter than a 3 ft rebar.
