Well managed to find an audiobook version on YouTube and so far about two hours in and wow

Really sounds like this should be a required reading thing

Yes I have read it except only part of volume 3 .In some respects it turns your mind toward being a political activist as that would be the only way one man could really change things . I have more positive things to do with my remaining years .It is reality but is so soulless that I quit the very last part. The irony is they treated their own people worse than some of the other countries surrounding them .

Hard to read. I did the 11 hour audio book. I listen to books on my 30 minute ride to and from work. I wish everyone in high school was make to read this book, 1984, Atlas Shrugged, and A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich in their English Classes. But those books, which really show how totalitarian governments take control because the people allow it, would be considered thoughtcrime in public schools today.

It did the opposite for me. Solidified my belief that voting harder/ politics is not going to change our course.

A friend's father was in a gulag and only thing that saved him was WWII starting. They took what was left of the people in the gulag and shipped them to Stalingrad to fight the Germans. How soon we forget history.

Wow talk about stuck between a rock and a hard place (The Gulag and the Battle of Stalingrad). It is a wonder he survived Stalingrad too.

I remember reading somewhere that The Gulag Archipelago is required reading in schools in Russia.

Come to think of it, it may have been in the foreword in the book.
