The wife has been doing puzzles and the kids were doing kids things the other day and I was bored. So I got on YouTube and thought I learn something. Well I had a roll of Paracord and made a few key chains bracelets. My question is for you extreme survivalist types do you have a minimum amount of feet of cordage you keep clipped to a bug out bag/survival pack? You can get alot of cord in a light weight bracelet. My son is old enough and I am wanting to have some non extreme but get the basics down camping trips with just a backpack with a limited basic tools. He is reading hatchet for reading points for school, I read it as a kid but as an adult that likes the outdoors I look at the book a little different and would like to learn to survive with just some basics and I think it would be a good learning/bonding experience with Cameron.

You can monkey chain 100ft+ of paracord that will fit in a pants pocket. I use it that way for setting up tree stand presets for tree climbing with rope.

I really never thought of any specific amount as a minimum, I just carry a whole crap load in my multiple 'EDC' bags.

You won't know if you have enough until you run out, and then it's too late. smile

shorter pieces can be run together with a sheep bend or square knot.

I believe you mean sheet bend! Originated as a quick and dirty way to attach a line to a ships sails (sheets).
