Walk though in heavy cover on a trail with bobcat sign on. Maybe a little lure on one or both sides blocked down so the only place to step is on the pan of an exposed trap with a little bit of ground duff on the pan to make it inviting. I don't do so good (not that I'm any kind of great cat trapper) when I'm not right on the trail.

Thanks Guy's, the most productive cat set for me is a step-down on a road culvert, make a platform half way down to the bottom of the ditch on one side of the culvert. Bed the trap, block it in. Throw some eye appeal and lure down at the end of culvert hardly ever miss and sometimes multiple catches. We have thousands of miles of timber company roads in SE OK. Culverts are hot spots for predators. Most of these culverts are on wet weather drainage and you don't have to worry about the set washing out.

Here in Indiana where we still don't have a season, just make a good coyote set and they line up to get in it. Did I say I despise bobcats? LOL

You and I trap the same part of the world. I check every culvert on those timber company roads. One of my “go to” locations. Do you have a theory on why they like to use those culvert crossings as toilets? It’s about the only consistent toilet location I can find. The only other trapper I’ve ever heard talk about culverts was Mike Bailey in his cat trapping dvd. I haven’t tried the step down set but I have no doubt it will work. I will have to put in a few of those sets this weekend.

Law Dog I haven’t tried the culvert/barrel cubby set here, although I’m sure it would work, but I’m not convinced that our cats running the roads are actually going down off the road to look in the culvert. I can tell you that they like making a toilet on the road directly over a culvert. I really can’t figure out why they “choose” some culvert crossings over others. I may try a few of you culvert cubby sets also. I think I know where a few small sections of culverts that have been pulled out of the roads are.

This was all I could see at one of the culvert crossings. 10’ cable and back foot catch made it interesting to say the least.

I find a small opening in a thick creek bottom or a dam grade best locations will have cut banks to funnel them by the sets.

Hey Okforester I'm not sure why the frequent those culverts maybe like fish holding to structure. Probably score slot of meals there. You doing any good? I've caught 3 cats so far, things seem slow setting on good sign but they must not be very active. I see your from McCurtian Co I live in North coumty at Smithville.

They have been moving pretty good with this full moon. I trap mainly on my hunting lease to control the predator populations so I know where all the productive sets are going to be year after year.

Apparently my best coyote set…doesn’t matter whether it’s a dirthole or pipe dream set, they’ll find it.

Walk through sets work great for me and like Savell mentions I try to make it right where they should travel anyways. I've grown so fond of rubbing posts I have even planted them on some of the best trails.
