Got a call from my son last night around 19:30 hours that he and the daughter in law had just been attacked by a coyote in their front yard. Seem that the d-i-l had went out to retrieve something from her car and the coyote ran up and started circling her. She started screaming and threw a back pack type lunch box at the coyote and was able to climb into the back of his truck. Son ran out of the house and the coyote ran at him and grabbed his left leg just above the ankle. He fell on top of it and managed to get a hold on the back of it's neck and hold it down, all the time yelling for my 13 year old granddaughter to bring a gun. She grabbed her Cricket and managed to shoot the coyote while he held it down. Luckily, he had on about 3 layers of clothes, insulated coveralls, and knee high boots, so the bite didn't penetrate and get to flesh. We called local LEO, and Animal control, to report. The carcass is currently on the way to be tested. To me, the coyote looked like a healthy 35 pound male, well furred, fat. The entire episode was captured on his outside security cameras, but so far we haven't figured out how to download the videos.

It is far more common then reported. If one digs a little they can find it. Some reason these attacks are suppressed. recorded attacks

crazy stuff
I guess the cricket got it done but would not have been my gun of choice , but if it is what she had access too and knew to load his hands were sorta busy
maybe he will start carrying something all the time

local social workers are going to try and get charges brought cause a 13 y/o had access to a firearm and knew how to use it . the local chapter of peta is going to say it was the fault of humans for encroaching in the coyotes world.
I say what an amazing family to not panic and kill the thing
