The wife and I were just having a conversation about the homeless. She, much like myself, is somewhat conservative. We both agreed, but I find it hard to imagine a disagreement. However, they do abound.
My statement," No one in this country is homeless other than by choice!" I will yield the caveat of mental incompetence, which is obvious. Why are we paying for these slugs that would rather sit around, drink and do drugs rather than work? Time to shut down the money and let them rot in their own bile.

Many of the newly homeless are not at fault, the Covid is destroying many small and even large biz's. If you have no job, you can't pay the rent or loan, and you gotta think of the guy that owns the apartments or house's. It's a very tough situation all around!

Around here jobs are easy to find. Everyone is hiring. I agree that right now today, except for the mentally ill or retarded, homeless people are there by choice

Appears their were 10.1 million job openings in June 2021 an 8.7 million unemployed..... sounds like they don’t want to work or relocate.

How many were receiving unemployment and getting the extra 300 or what ever it was and not paying their rent because government said they didn't have to. And now they complain they have to pay the back rent and they don't think they should have to.

I know it would’ve been tough for me to own rental property during the time they said they didn’t have to pay rent. I promise they wouldn’t have wanted to live there

I have to agree -- the gov't money far outweighed alot of jobs, and the fact that you didn't have to pay rent and still (in this state) can't be kicked out. We had a huge homeless problem before covid and the same huge homeless problem after(during this latest round). I don't know of many employers that don't have a help wanted sign out.

So I think you have painted too broad of a stroke to really give an accurate assessment. Personally if we go before covid came about, homelessness was still an issue, and everybody is saying businesses have been hiring......What did/do they pay? Can the person with no skills get those jobs? In my opinion when we talk about homelessness and jobs in 2022, one of the few good things that came out of it is I think most people realized how underpaid they were.

It is pretty tough to pay for an apartment, let alone a house and other things when your barely above water. All it takes is a vehicle break down, an accident, or some other what would be "small event" that is catastrophic for a good majority of those groups. I'm not for raising the minimum wage just to say we are taking care of those people, however jobs that are not appreciated and are critically vital should get paid a lot more.

How central money has become in our lives plays a huge part in this problem, not just drugs or other issues. The government, and us the sheep have elected individuals into office that have accelerated this path that is going to be unforgivable soon if things don't change. When having a degree that doesn't even play a part into how well you can do the job matters more than performance, everything else is out the window.

I'll bet you that over 90% of the homeless are victims of mental illness of some sort and are untreated.

If your right Bernie thats a real shame. People don't choose mental illness.

it started in the 80s when Reagan emptied the asylums.

a friend of mine was a jailer late 70s through the late 80s , they saw a real change in their guests when the institutions were closed.
when she started one woman could do prisoner transports

no cage , heck the doors still opened from the inside it was just a car with LE plates , she used to take her kids with on prisoner runs some times

here only inmate to escape was a mentally disturbed woman who just opened the door and ran, they recovered the woman. then the door locks nobs got unscrewed so that they couldn't unlock their doors

she said when Castro emptied his prisons things really started to get interesting about 6 months later

on the flip side when she started they would put together a team at the sheriffs department to serve warrants , after the Casino (native american) was in a year or two she would just walk through the casino and serve warrant's Monday morning. if they put up a fuss they lost their job if they took the warrant they could go to court and deal with it and go back to work when time was served or maybe they just had a fine they could pay and go back to work.
